Kedron hotel, Lake Peachtree dam on PTC Council agenda Jan. 15

Apsilon Hotels and its desire to construct and operate an all-suites Marriott Residence Inn in the Kedron Office park will be the subject of a public hearing before the Peachtree City Council on Jan. 15.

The council will also discuss the status of the Lake Peachtree spillway and engineering options and will consider a $1.146 million lease-purchase agreement on a variety of vehicles, equipment, records management and telephone system upgrades. Read More»

Stephenson to play for Young Harris

'Beast' on the lacrosse field, coach says

Peachtree City native Zach Stephenson will join the Young Harris College men’s lacrosse team in 2016, the college announced.

“Zach is an absolute beast,” head coach Kirk Rogers said. “As a multi-sport athlete, Zach excels at football, wrestling, and lacrosse. Although he has played multiple positions throughout high school, he started to focus primarily on face-offs this spring and has quickly become one of the best face-off players in the country.”

Stephenson plays lacrosse at The McCallie School and also competes for the LB3 club program.

Burch Bears celebrate anniversary

School still has some original staff

Robert J. Burch Elementary School is celebrating its Silver Anniversary of 25 years with some special t-shirts that reflect the past.

The faculty and staff received a commemorative anniversary t-shirt with a design that is a replica of the original Burch t-shirt design from the school's inaugural year, 1990.

Methodist planning global impact program

Several speakers to be featured during long weekend

Peachtree City United Methodist Church is gearing up for its 2nd Annual Global Impact Celebration (GIC).

This extended weekend program from Feb. 5-8 will be led by the Rev. Tamlyn Collins, associate pastor of Serve Ministries, and the GIC Planning Team.

After last year’s inaugural event, the church saw a tremendous increase in mission support from members. Support for missions grew from $80,000 in 2013 to more than $465,000 between February and December 2014. Read More»

FFBC’s Glenn Stringham announces retirement

Pastor Glenn Stringham

Pastor Glenn Stringham announced to the congregation of Fayetteville First Baptist Church his intention to retire from his position as pastor to senior adults effective Jan. 31. He has served the church in that position for nearly 19 years.

The church will host a farewell fellowship in honor of Stringham and his family Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. Their community of friends is invited.

Stringham and his family moved to Fayetteville from Hawaii where he was stationed with the U.S. Army. While there he served on staff of First Southern Baptist Church of Pearl Harbor. Read More»

Olivet to host forum on youth and law enforcement

In response to nationwide incidents involving police and citizen Interactions, The Olivet Church is sponsoring a forum to educate youth on making proper choices when interacting with law enforcement officers.

The forum which will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. will highlight “Know Your Rights — Exercise Common Sense.”

The event will be held at the Olivet church campus, 877 Ga. Highway 314 North, Fayetteville.

Various law enforcement officers have been invited to participate as panelists to collaborate with youth about their roles in communities. Read More»
