County looks at road link with Kedron neighborhood

Fayette County officials will explore the possibility of paving a dirt road that could link up with Astoria Lane in north Peachtree City, if city officials signed off on the project.

The Fayette County Commission last week discussed a petition from residents on Sims Road, located in the unincorporated county, to have the road paved. It was noted that the road could be extended a very short distance so it would link up with Astoria Lane in the Kedron Village area, where a road stub already exists between two homes. Read More»

PTC parcels out open space zonings

City also adopts corrected future land use map

Last week, the Peachtree City Council adopted a new zoning map that rezoned more than 600 individual tracts of land from a “plain vanilla” open space category to one of two more specific new open space categories.

Each tract was rezoned to either open space-public or open space-conservation. The OS-C zoning is reserved for land that is projected to remain in its natural state such as the city-owned greenbelts and buffers, officials said.

Peachtree City advises caution when charging golf carts

To prevent potential explosions, Peachtree City residents are being advised to charge their golf carts either outdoors or with the garage door open, city fire officials said this week.
The carts when charging emit hydrogen gas, which can cause an explosion or flash fire, officials cautioned. It is also recommended that carts be charged away from any open flame including those for gas water heaters, officials said. Read More»

Dance classes start Sunday in Tyrone

Starting Oct. 17, at the Tyrone Recreation Center, there will be three different dance classes. The first dance class will be a beginner “Swing”, which is from 5-6 p.m., and is a co-ed class. The “Swing” is the most popular dance, with great floor appeal, easy to learn and most of all, is lots of fun.

The second class will be intermediate “Tango” from 6-7 p.m., and this is also a co-ed class. The “Tango” is a classic dance.

Expansion section to PTC Dog Park now open

The Peachtree City Dog Park Association (PTCDPA) recently held the grand opening of its one acre park expansion recentl. Peachtree City Mayor Don Haddix and Council Member Vanessa Fleisch were there to cut the ribbon.

There was a large crowd of dog owners and dogs present for the festivities. The expansion project increases the park’s size to over three acres and includes a significant amount of additional shade for the warm sunny days. Fayette cities/county meet on regional transportation plan

There was only one agenda item at the Sept. 12 meeting of the Association of Fayette County Governments: the regional transportation one-cent sales tax initiative known as the Transportation Investment Act of 2010 that will be voted up or down at the polls in 2012. Mr. Travis Lamar Smith, 87, of Fayetteville

Mr. Travis Lamar Smith, 87, of Fayetteville, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2010.

Mr. Smith proudly served in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart medal.

He is survived by his son Lee Blackstone; three grandchildren, Shannon, Ivy and Lindsay; five great-grandchildren.

F'ville woman arrested for identity fraud

Fayette County Sheriff’s Investigators made an arrest on Oct. 12 in connection with an identity theft case which was reported on Oct. 7.
