Planning begins for county's biggest birthday party

The 2011 Relay For Life of Fayette County’s Advisory Committee met for the first time last week.  The purpose of the meeting was to begin preparations for the 2011 Relay For Life of Fayette County.  The 2011 Relay will be held at the Atlanta Regional Airport – Falcon Field in Peachtree City.

Free “Love and Logic” seminar offered this fall in Tyrone

Both parents and educators often view the disciplining of children to be one of the most challenging issues they face.

This fall, parents and teachers of the Fayette County Public School System are invited to attend a free seven-week Love and Logic workshop on Tuesdays Sept.14, 21, 28, and Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Robert J. Burch Elementary. While the workshop is free, there is a $10 book fee. CARE, Children at Risk in Education, is sponsoring the workshop. Read More»

Quick-Turner reunion set for Sept. 11

The 12th annual reunion of the descendants of Eli and Drucilla Turner Quick, originally of Inman, Fayette County, will get together Saturday, Sept. 11.
As usual, they will meet at New Salem Baptist Church in Griffin, beginning at 10 a.m.

You are encouraged to bring a covered dish and any family memorabilia to share.

The Quicks and Turners settled in Fayette, Spalding, Coweta and Pike counties.

5 indicted in 2 drug trafficking cases

A Fayette County grand jury has indicted three men for trafficking in methamphetamine after undercover drug agents found about three pounds of methamphetamine in a home in northwest Fayette County June 11.

Bernal Gerson Villafan and Uvaldo Alvarado Tequila, both of 385 Greenview Circle, Fayetteville where the incident took place and Ismael Guerrero Moya of Dade City, Fla., were charged with trafficking in methamphetamine. 5 indicted for S. Fayette heavy equipment chop shop

Five people have been indicted for participating in a heavy equipment chop shop that was discovered May 18 just outside of the town of Brooks in south Fayette County.

Ronald J. Martin and Shane D. Spino, both of 455 Morgan Mill Road, Brooks, Charles Allen Rippy Jr. of Todd Road, Greenville, Nathaniel B. Morris of Pine Street, Zebulon, and Nathan William Lunsford of Garner Road, Alvaton will face felony charges in connection with the case. Read More»

Fayetteville votes to keep its property taxes level

The Fayetteville City Council held to its promise to hold down any increase in property taxes this year. The council Aug. 19 approved a rollback millage rate of 3.24 mills. The rate will include 2.345 mills for the General Fund budget and .895 mills for the Capital Project Funds budget.

This year’s rate is considered a rollback, or perhaps a roll-up, due to the reassessment of real property, most of which saw a decrease in value over the past year, Finance Director Lynn Robinson said. Read More»

PTC woman arrested after stealing from clients

Peachtree City Police investigators on Aug. 27 arrested Robin Darleen White, 37, of Aberdeen Drive on with three counts of theft by receiving stolen property and two counts of financial identity fraud. The cleaning service operator is accused of stealing from her clients.

Police spokesperson Rosanna Dove said the charges stemed from an ongoing fraud investigation conducted by the Peachtree City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. Read More»

She is survived by her daughters Susan Fitzgerald and her husband Al of Peachtree City; Sandra Stafford of Longwood FL ; 3 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Annie Lou Preston of Summerfield NC ; nieces and nephews.

David Curtis Sanders, age 53, of Fayetteville passed away August 27, 2010.

He was a retired scheduler in the wheel and brake shop at Delta Airlines.
