Barrow hired to be Fayette’s new school superintendent

Ware County School Superintendent Dr. Joseph “Jody” C. Barrow, Jr. received unanimous approval by the Fayette County Board of Education Monday night to serve as superintendent of Fayette County schools beginning July 1.

Barrow thus will take over the actual day-to-day operation of the county’s largest government, its largest expender of tax dollars and its largest employer.

Prior to the vote, board member Leonard Presberg said he was excited about Barrow’s hire, with board member Barry Marchman adding that Barrow is “the right man at the right time.” Read More»

Fayette County may soon be crowned as the TV and movie-making capital of Georgia, now that London’s Pinewood Studios has officially announced that its “full service film and entertainment studio complex” is under construction in rural Fayette County, directly across from Rivers Elementary School on Sandy Creek Road.

Kateleen, 11, tells F'ville mayor how she'd run things

Fayette Middle School sixth-grader Kateleen Kyle took the honors after winning the city’s annual “If I were mayor I would ...” essay contest. Kateleen’s family was on hand as her winning entry was announced at the April 18 meeting of the Fayetteville City Council.

In her essay, 11-year-old Kateleen described her aspiration to provide more parks for recreation, to help secure more jobs to benefit families and to promote law enforcement with the aim of helping make the city a safer place to live.

Perry Springman and Keith Johnson to appear at COS this weekend

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City welcomes two guest worship leaders May 4-5. On Saturday at 7 p.m. Perry Springman will be the guest musician. Springman is lead vocalist and songwriter for Perry and The Poor Boys, a band from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Formerly a youth minister, Springman now devotes his time to his music and to World Vision. He will be en route to a Worship Vision ministry in the Dominican Republic. Members and guests of First Baptist Church Peachtree City (FBCPTC) gathered on the grounds after the Sunday service on April 28 for an old-fashioned pot luck luncheon to celebrate the church’s 40th anniversary. First Baptist was formally constituted on March 11, 1973.

Holy Spirit ministry coming to FFC

The Holy Spirit Encounter ministry is coming May 3-5 to Fayette Family Church at 1729 Ga. Hwy. 54 W. in Fayetteville. Those attending will hear and experience biblical teachings, worship, testimonies, and more with focus on the Holy Spirit. Heritage Baptist to host family conference

Widow: Elderly need your compassion

The letter [The Citizen, April 24, 2013] was not a hoax. On the other hand I was not asking for help, and I would die of embarrassment if anyone found out who I was, thus no signature.

My doctor that I confided in is fixing my tub.

The point of my letter was to get people to understand that some of the elderly are alone and lonely, and a visit from a neighbor helps.

Another point of my letter is for children to be more understanding with their elderly parents, and a little time is all we want. Read More»
