Tyrone WWII veteran, 101, addresses Newnan group

The West Georgia Chapter of the Georgia Power Ambassadors on Nov. 11 honored veterans at the organization’s meeting in Newnan. The guest speaker at the meeting was 101-year-old Tyrone resident Lamar Wallace, a veteran of World War II.

As veterans arrived for the meeting at Wesley Woods in Newnan, they were thanked for their service. There were almost 30 veterans in attendance. Each was introduced and their branch of service was announced, said organization spokesperson Theresa Kinzly. Read More»

Voters settle sales tax question; PTC mayor to be decided Dec. 3

While Peachtree City voters filled three city council seats in last week’s election, the mayor’s race has yet to be settled since none of the five candidates won more than 50 percent of the vote.

Dogwood Church in Tyrone will offer GriefShare - Surviving the Holidays, a seminar, Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 7-9 p.m. The group will meet in the Atrium area of the church office. The video presentation will offer suggestions on how to handle hard-hitting emotions during the holiday season, what to do about family traditions, how to scale back on activities and holiday preparations, and where to find the strength to go on.

Coston loses to Tyrone incumbent by 6 votes

Pota Coston, challenger for a seat on the Tyrone Town Council.

The votes were cast Tuesday night and the recount came on Thursday. When all was done, incumbent Tyrone Councilman Ken Matthews beat challenger Pota Coston by a slim margin of six votes in the race for the Post 3 council seat.

Matthews won the contest taking 659 votes while Coston received 653 votes. A total of 1,317 votes were cast, representing a 29.8 percent turnout of Tyrone’s approximately 4,000 registered voters. Read More»

Volunteers for the Real Life Center’s apple team show off apples they’ve picked from the Harvest for Real Life Orchard located on Dogwood Church property in Tyrone. In the first first year of harvest, volunteers have picked over 3,350 lbs. of fresh produce to distribute for families in need. The fruit is distributed through the Real Life Center at 220 Parkade Cte in Peachtree City. Dogwood Church in Tyrone will offer GriefShare - Surviving the Holidays, a seminar, Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 7-9 p.m. The group will meet in the Atrium area of the church office.

The video offers suggestions on how to handle hard-hitting emotions during the holiday season and how to scale back on activities and holiday preparations. There will be a small group discussion to discuss concepts and to share concerns.
