Hopewell will host chicken barbecue, yard sale Saturday

Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone will hold its annual Chick-N-Que this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $7.50 each.

There will also be a bake sale where desserts may be purchased to go with the meal.

The meal consists of half a barbecued chicken, slaw, baked beans, bread, and iced tea.

A community-wide yard sale will also be held that day. Spaces may be reserved for for $10. Space under the pavilion is limited and reserved on a first-come-first-served basis. Read More»

A stepping 'Stone' for ballroom dancing

James Stone, a ballroom dancing instructor with over 25 year experience will be starting a new class for ladies at the Tyrone Recreation Department starting on June 6. This four week class will be on Sunday evenings from 7-8 p.m. and cost $35 per person. Read More»

Fox attack in Tyrone sends 2 to hospital Monday

An employee of a Palmetto Road business and a customer of another were both bitten Monday afternoon by a fox that was subsequently killed by Tyrone police officers responding to the scene. Those bitten were treated at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. Read More»

Bethany Shell Biggs engaged to Kyle James Gable

Charlie and Barbara Biggs of Tyrone announce the engagement of their daughter, Bethany Shell Biggs, to Kyle James Gable, son of Kirk and Deede Gable of Douglasville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Charlie and Evelyn Shell of Fairburn and the late Norval and Elaine Biggs of Atlanta. She is a 2002 graduate of Sandy Creek High School and The University of West Georgia, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education. Teacher selected as Honored French Citizen

Sandy Creek High’s Stephane Allagnon is the latest person to be listed as an Honored French Citizen by the French Consulate, Southeast region.

Allagnon, a French teacher and foreign language department chair at the school, as well as president of the American Association of Teachers of French, now joins a growing list of other honorees from the region that includes the states of Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee. Sandy Creek students top in nation at handling personal finances, part of Financial Capability Challenge

When business teacher Jaime Nicks at Sandy Creek High heard about the newly launched National Financial Capability Challenge, she couldn’t pass it up.
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced the Challenge in December 2009 to promote financial education among high school students across the country. More than 76,000 high school students and 2,500 educators participated. Read More»

Man arrested for dumping 200-300 scrap tires in Tyrone

A John’s Creek man was arrested on felony charges Wednesday in connection with the illegal dumping of 200-300 scrap tires on property in Tyrone.

Charles Ejemba, 44, of John’s Creek, was arrested at his home by John’s Creek Police on felony charges of unlawful dumping for commercial purposes and was transported to the Fayette County Jail, said Tyrone Police Chief Brandon Perkins. Read More»
