Hopewell needs help for meal-packing event Sat.

Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone invites the community to help package over 10,000 meals that will be shipped to those in need around the world. This annual meal packing event will be held on Saturday, March 29, at 10 a.m, at the church.

The event is supported by “Stop Hunger Now,” an international hunger relief organization that coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid to those in need. COS Lutheran plans special service at new Tyrone property March 30

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church will offer a special service and activities at its property at 411 Palmetto Road, Tyrone, on Sunday, March 30. Worship begins at 12:30 p.m., but participants are invited to bring a picnic lunch to eat before worship begins.

GraceFlock Band will lead in worship, along with Shepherd’s Flock Singers. After worship, children may enjoy egg hunts by age group, crafts, and games. Read More»

Dr. Brian "Doc" Jefferson, 72, of Tyrone

Dr. Brian "Doc" Jefferson, 72, of Tyrone, Ga. passed away Sun., Mar. 23, 2014 at Hospice Atlanta.

He was born Aug. 2, 1941 in Wareham, Mass. to the late George Jefferson & Avis Rider Jefferson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George Raymond Jefferson.

Brian grew up and graduated from high school in Wareham, Mass. His love of sailing and boating began as a young man spending time in the waters off Cape Cod. Brian spent several years serving his country in the Coast Guard. Read More»

Julian Morgan, III, 53, of Tyrone

Julian "Jay" Morgan, III, 53, of Tyrone, Ga., passed away March 17, 2014.

He was a graduate of Southern Crescent Technical College and worked as a Service Technician with General Electric.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Morgan of Tyrone; sons Michael Gilbert of Fayetteville, Chad Gilbert and his wife Aliah Danielle of Newnan and Julian Alver Morgan, IV of Tyrone; grandson Noah Gilbert of Newnan and sister Pamela and husband Henry Shelnutt of Senoia and several nieces and nephews. Mailbox theft suspects chased from Tyrone to Coweta

What began March 7 as a report of stealing mail in Tyrone quickly led to a pursuit by Peachtree City Police that continued into Coweta County where Coweta deputies clocked the vehicle at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. The vehicle was disabled by Coweta deputies on Interstate 85 and the two Atlanta residents in the vehicle were taken to the Fayette County Jail.

Shawntay S. Simmons, 26, was charged with financial identity fraud, fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, speeding and obedience to a traffic control device, according to Fayette County Jail records. Read More»

Hopewell WMU sponsors paint night

Hopewell Methodist Women recently held a “Paint Night” and 15 women gathered to paint their version of a beautiful cross.

Most of the women had never painted before and artist Julie Compton, of Sassy Chick Painting Parties, led them through the steps to produce their masterpiece.

There were 15 grand, glorious, and joyful results and everyone proudly took their paintings home.

Another “Paint Night” is scheduled for July 25. The women will celebrate “Christmas in July” and paint a holiday scene. Read More»
