Mrs. Rebecca Ann Jackson of Tyrone passed away March 17, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Edwin (Ed) Jackson and is survived by her sons, Mike Jackson of Cartersville; Tim Jackson and his wife Linda of Athens; sisters, Hilda Pace of Newnan; Ruth Taylor of Athens; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 21, 2011 at 11 o’clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home with Dr. Farren Roper officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Gardens. Tyrone approves Tyrone-Palmetto Road traffic study

The Tyrone Town Council Thursday night on a 3-2 vote approved an intergovernmental agreement with Fayette County to conduct an engineering study relating to intersection and road improvement on Tyrone-Palmetto Road from Ga. Highway 74 to the Coweta County line. Funding for the $30,000 study will come from existing one-cent sales tax (SPLOST) funds. Read More»

SCHS grad named 'Amazing Student' at UGA

Jill Turner, a 2007 graduate of Sandy Creek, was recently named an Amazing Student at the University of Georgia. She currently serves as the executive director of UGA’s chapter of the Roosevelt Institute Campus Network and as the secretary-general of the Model United Nations Team. Outside of campus, she has interned in U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan’s office in Washington, D.C., where she helped to manage and maintain legislative correspondence, serve as the initial contact for constituents with requests and concerns, research a variety of topics for staffers, and aid overall office performances. Mr. James Donald Odom, 90, of Tyrone, passed away on March 14, 2011.

Mr. Odom was a member of a Masonic Lodge. He is preceded in death by his son Harry Odom; great-grandchild Kirkland Scott; brother, Bill Odom; sisters Cleitus Smith and Helen Oliver. He is survived by his beloved wife Margie Odom; grandchild Michelle Scott and her husband Keith of Columbus; daughter-in-law Doneta Odom of Columbus ; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Abigail Scott, both of Columbus; several nieces and nephews. Sandy Creek High School’s chorus and drama departments will present “Little Shop of Horrors” at Sandy Creek’s Patriot Hall Auditorium Thursday – Sunday, Mar. 24-27. Tyrone is holding ‘Century of Treasures’ Yard Sale this Saturday

The Tyrone Centennial Committee is having a kick-off for The 100-Year Celebration for 2011.

The Town of Tyrone Centennial Committee is holding the largest yard sale in Tyrone on Saturday, Mar. 19, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The yard sale is being held at Shamrock Park, 941 Senoia Rd. Tyrone, Ga. 30290. The committee is still taking applications for participants to sell their items. The booth space is $25 for a 12 x 12 spot. You must provide your own table and tent. It is open to the community to sell items and shop for treasures. Read More»

Tyrone police reports Mar. 1-10

The following arrests were made by Tyrone Police between March 1-10. those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Jessica Maria Espinosa, 20, of Cedar Lane, Fayetteville, for failure to appear.

Oscar Mojica Rodriguez, 31, of Peachtree Landing Circle, Fairburn, for tail light required and driving while unlicensed.

Francis N. Peacock, 23, of West Fairfield Drive, Pensacola, Fla., for less than an ounce of marijuana.

Silvia Ramirez, 39, of Kings Ridge Drive, Peachtree City, for failure to yield right-of-way and driving while unlicensed.
