Healthpoint Pediatric friendly to families

Healthpoint Pediatrics opened its doors in 2004 in Tyrone by Dr. Marat Plotkin. He was motivated to open his own practice after providing ER services at Atlanta’s Scottish Rite and his goal was to provide an atmosphere in which parents are not rushed and are given time to discuss their children’s health with him. Healthpoint Pediatrics provides care to children ages newborn to 21 years old.

It’s easy to tell that Tyrone homeowner Sandra Mallory is just a bit overjoyed. That is because her new hero, Sgt. Eric DeLoose, and his keen eye saved her home Wednesday when he quickly responded after noticing the beginnings of a fire that had started in several trash cans adjacent to the house. It was nothing but hugs of appreciation for Tyrone Police Sgt. Eric DeLoose by homeowner Sandra Mallory Thursday afternoon. The alert DeLoose while on patrol on Pendleton Trail Wednesday noticed the beginnings of a house fire that firefighters minutes later extinguished, saving what would have been a major structure fire and potentially the loss of Mallory’s home. Recession or not, Tyrone to hold steady at 2.89 mills

The Tyrone Town Council is on its way to adopting the $3.085 million FY 2010-2011 budget by the end of June. Expected decreased property tax revenues are being offset by 3 percent departmental reductions and the transfer of $136,000 from the reserve account. The 2.89 millage rate is expected to remain unchanged.

The council Thursday continued the discussion of the proposed General Fund budget that totals $3,085,674. That amounts to a $45,005 increase, or 1.5 percent, over the current year. Read More»

Fox that bit two in Tyrone tests positive for rabies

The fox that bit two people in Tyrone Monday was determined late Tuesday to be rabid. Fayette County Animal Control stressed that area residents should be sure that their pets are current on rabies vaccinations. Read More»

Hopewell will host chicken barbecue, yard sale Saturday

Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone will hold its annual Chick-N-Que this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $7.50 each.

There will also be a bake sale where desserts may be purchased to go with the meal.

The meal consists of half a barbecued chicken, slaw, baked beans, bread, and iced tea.

A community-wide yard sale will also be held that day. Spaces may be reserved for for $10. Space under the pavilion is limited and reserved on a first-come-first-served basis. Read More»

A stepping 'Stone' for ballroom dancing

James Stone, a ballroom dancing instructor with over 25 year experience will be starting a new class for ladies at the Tyrone Recreation Department starting on June 6. This four week class will be on Sunday evenings from 7-8 p.m. and cost $35 per person. Read More»

Fox attack in Tyrone sends 2 to hospital Monday

An employee of a Palmetto Road business and a customer of another were both bitten Monday afternoon by a fox that was subsequently killed by Tyrone police officers responding to the scene. Those bitten were treated at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. Read More»

Bethany Shell Biggs engaged to Kyle James Gable

Charlie and Barbara Biggs of Tyrone announce the engagement of their daughter, Bethany Shell Biggs, to Kyle James Gable, son of Kirk and Deede Gable of Douglasville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Charlie and Evelyn Shell of Fairburn and the late Norval and Elaine Biggs of Atlanta. She is a 2002 graduate of Sandy Creek High School and The University of West Georgia, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education. She is employed by the Fayette County Board of Education as a kindergarten teacher. Read More»
