Tyrone police reports, June 10-21

The following arrests were made by Tyrone Police between June 10-21. Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Jakeel Lemon Allen, 18, of Bradford Way, Fairburn, for no license.
Jeffrey Albert Duke, 31, of Seavy Street, Senoia, for warrant served.
Mark Anthony Foster, Jr., 26, of Dowdy Drive, Summerville, for obtaining a controlled substance by theft, forgery or fraud.

Tyrone Planning Commission hears zoning discrepancy

There was some confusion and concern at the Thursday meeting of the Tyrone Planning Commission over the zoning designation of a 55.8-acre portion of property along the west side of Ga. Highway 74 adjacent to the southeastern portion of the Southampton subdivision. After a public hearing and discussion on the issue, the property’s current designation as A-R (Agricultural-Residential) was deemed to have been an error in color-coding made sometime in previous years on the town’s zoning map. Tyrone boy, 9, in critical condition after near drowning

A 9-year-old Tyrone boy is in critical condition at Scottish Rite Hospital after his near drowning Sunday at the swimming pool in the Southampton subdivision. Read More»

BoE, county commission get failing grades

Just try to find someone who will give this bunch of incumbents, with the exception of Dr. Bob Todd, a good grade on anything. They may have to repeat a grade because they didn’t learn much in the previous session. Personally, I think they ought to be expelled for good.

The Board of Education under the leadership of Chairman Terri Smith has jumped out of the plane without a parachute. They built all these schools we didn’t need and are closing other buildings after we just renovated them. Read More»

Brown, McCarty will take Fayette back from ‘good old boy developer crowd’

You know Steve Brown is the right choice in the July 20 County Commission election because his opponent can’t stick to the issues. The other side just keeps trying to smear him in the newspaper.

I have lived in Fayette County for many years and watched Steve Brown from the start.

It’s obvious the good old boy developer crowd is afraid of Mr. Brown. And while Mr. Brown keeps stating the facts and speaking directly to the issues, the other side keeps attacking him. Read More»

Glory Clapp will perform June 10

The B-Acts group, seniors age 50 and older, at Flat Creek Baptist Church will have a dinner meeting Thursday, June 10 at 7 p.m., with ventriloquist Glory Clapp and her friend, Hal A. Lujah, providing the entertainment. Members are encouraged to bring their friends.

Those who are attending for the first time are guests of the group.

Regular members are asked to bring a vegetable and a salad or dessert. Meat will be provided by the church.

Healthpoint Pediatrics opened its doors in 2004 in Tyrone by Dr. Marat Plotkin. It’s easy to tell that Tyrone homeowner Sandra Mallory is just a bit overjoyed. That is because her new hero, Sgt. Eric DeLoose, and his keen eye saved her home Wednesday when he quickly responded after noticing the beginnings of a fire that had started in several trash cans adjacent to the house. It was nothing but hugs of appreciation for Tyrone Police Sgt. Eric DeLoose by homeowner Sandra Mallory Thursday afternoon. The alert DeLoose while on patrol on Pendleton Trail Wednesday noticed the beginnings of a house fire that firefighters minutes later extinguished, saving what would have been a major structure fire and potentially the loss of Mallory’s home. Recession or not, Tyrone to hold steady at 2.89 mills

The Tyrone Town Council is on its way to adopting the $3.085 million FY 2010-2011 budget by the end of June. Expected decreased property tax revenues are being offset by 3 percent departmental reductions and the transfer of $136,000 from the reserve account. The 2.89 millage rate is expected to remain unchanged.

The council Thursday continued the discussion of the proposed General Fund budget that totals $3,085,674. That amounts to a $45,005 increase, or 1.5 percent, over the current year. Read More»
