7th man arrested in armed robberies in PTC, Tyrone

A seventh suspect has been arrested in connection with the Aug. 30 armed robbery at the Peachtree City Target and the Sept. 12 armed robberies of the Pit Stop convenience store in Peachtree City and the Sonic Drive-In in Tyrone.

Bradford J. Gibbs, Jr., 20, of Tom Bridges Road in Newnan, was arrested Sept. 26 on charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a knife or firearm during the commission of a crime, according to information supplied by the Fayette County Jail. Read More»

F’ville Mayor Steele flip-flops to left of center

The most difficult thing for me to comprehend as a Fayette County resident is how we ended up with so many elected officials on the center-left of the political spectrum. They talk the talk in front of the local conservative audiences, but their actions tell a much different story.

My ears perked up at the Sept, 22 Board of Commissioners meeting when Commissioner Robert Horgan kept saying we were a “progressive” county. Hopewell’s Pumpkin Patch opens Sunday

The annual Hopewell United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch will open for business Sunday, Oct. 2. All proceeds go toward mission projects at the church.

The Patch will be open Monday through Saturday from noon until 7 p.m., and Sunday from 12:30 to 7 p.m.

The Patch offers pumpkins in a variety of sizes and prices.

Hopewell UMC is at 351 Jenkins Rd. in Tyrone, directly across from Sandy Creek High School.

Legacy Theatre set to present 'Pippin'

County to close Kirkley Road for several months

Culverts degraded at Trickum Creek; closing starts Monday

Beginning Monday, Kirkley Road in northwest Fayette County will be closed to thru traffic because of the deteriorating condition of culverts underneath the road at Trickum Creek, county officials have said.

The county expects the road to be closed for several months, but the county will work "aggressively" to build a new creek crossing at the location. There was money programmed into this year's budget to handle the repairs. Read More»

Karafanda selected as new youth minister at Hopewell

Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone has announced the appointment of a new youth pastor. After an exhaustive search, the Rev. Shannon E. Karafanda is charged with restructuring and enlarging Hopewell’s youth ministry.

Karafanda is an ordained deacon in the United Methodist Church with a focus on family ministries. She grew up in Morrow and worked as a computer programmer before pursuing her call to the ministry in 1999. She has a bachelor of science degree in management from Georgia Tech and a masters in divinity, from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Read More»
