Hopewell’s Chicken-Q is Saturday

The community is invited to and enjoy a barbecue chicken meal at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone on Saturday, May 18.

Tickets are $8 each and include barbecued chicken, slaw, baked beans, bread, and iced tea. The meal will be prepared and sold by the Methodist Men and proceeds will support their mission efforts.

The senior adult group, Recycled Kids, will sponsor a bake sale during the event.

The Hopewell youth group will wash cars from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The car wash is free but donations will be gladly accepted. Read More»

Members of Living Proof Church, 414 Jenkins Rd., Tyrone, will have their 10th anniversary celebration thisSunday, May 19, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The 10:45 a.m. worship service will include performances by musicians who previously attended Living Proof, speakers who were instrumental in founding and developing the church, a vision for the church’s coming years of praise and service ministry, and a few surprises.

Jesse W. Shaddix, age 87

Jesse W. Shaddix

Mr. Jesse W. Shaddix passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the age of 87. He was born on May 5, 1925 to the late William James Shaddix and Ida Pearl Lashley Shaddix.

Mr. Shaddix graduated from Lanett High School in 1943 and joined the Army-Air Force. While on basic training at Keesler Air Force base, he married his high school sweetheart, Rachel Ernestine Gay, on October 4, 1943. After World War II, he attended Auburn University and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies and Physical Education and a Masters in School Administration. Read More»

For the annual 10th annual Whitewater Spectacular, the WHS Choral Department is putting the finishing touches on the “American Tribal Love-Rock Musical Hair.”

“Hair” is a stage work in two acts that tells the story of the “tribe,” a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the “Age of Aquarius” living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War. Read More»
