Mr. Larry D. Matthews, age 69, of Tyrone passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Patton Matthews; son, Michael L. Fayette’s SAT race is led by McIntosh

Peachtree City’s McIntosh High School is marked by at least two distinctions this week: An unbeaten football team and the county’s highest test score average on the 2013 Scholastic Aptitude Test.

McIntosh leads in the SAT race with a 1,644-point average, and Starr’s Mill High School is right behind with an SAT average of 1,622. They are followed by Whitewater, Sandy Creek and Fayette County High.

Fayette OK's $1.8M deal for new fire station on Jenkins Rd.

At long last, Fayette County has approved a construction contract to build a new fire station for the Tyrone area that will be relocated near the Sandy Creek school complex on Jenkins Road at Ga. Highway 74.

A $1.8 million construction bid from Ward General Contractors was approved Thursday night by the Fayette County Commission. Read More»

FrontierFest set for Sept. 29 in Tyrone

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church invites the community to its FrontierFest on Sept. 29 at 411 Palmetto Road (last property before Coweta County, its new property in Tyrone.

Music begins at 10 a.m., outdoor worship starts at 10:30, lunch featuring Dickey’s Barbecue is at 11:30, and activities for all ages commence at noon.

Members will provide side dishes and desserts. Suggested donation for lunch is $5 per person, with a $15 family maximum.

Scheduled are pony rides, stick horse races, “gold rush,” water balloon toss, Corn Hole, and a “vintage” photo tent. Read More»

2 candidate forums slated in Oct.

Two candidate forums have been scheduled to help the public sift through campaign issues ahead of the Nov. 5 municipal elections in Peachtree City and Tyrone.

The Rotary Club of Peachtree City will hold its traditional candidate forum Tuesday, Oct. 8 at the Peachtree Wyndham Conference Center at 6:30 p.m.

And a diverse group of political forces is joining together to host Peachtree City and Tyrone candidates Saturday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Fayette County Library in Fayetteville. Read More»

Coston, Matthews will face off for Tyrone Council seat

Voters in Tyrone will see only one contested race in the November election. The race for the Post 3 seat on the Tyrone Town Council will have incumbent Ken Matthews facing off against challenger Pota Coston.

The qualifying period for the Post 3 and 4 seats of the Tyrone Town Council ended Friday afternoon with Matthews and Coston qualifying for the Post 3 seat held by Matthews.
