Retail size caps for LUC voted down

A proposal to establish various maximum size limits for new development zoned limited use commercial was voted down by the Peachtree City Council.

Mayor Don Haddix advocated for similar restrictions for all new development on land zoned general commercial, but that measure failed March 3.

Because of that, Haddix argued that it did no good to adopt the size caps for limited use commercial zoning districts. Read More»

Newnan man arrested for molesting runaway girl in PTC

A Newnan man was arrested Thursday for having sex with a juvenile female whom he had helped run away from home in another state, police said. Ryan A. Walker, 19, of Highlands Point, Newnan was charged with child molestation, interference with child custody and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to the police report.

PTC OK’s road, path project lists

Peachtree City’s wish list for regional transportation projects includes both road and cart path projects.

The projects vary from the second phase of MacDuff Parkway at the northern end to a network of paths that would connect residents on the south side of the city to the industrial park and the Baseball Soccer Complex on Ga. Highway 74 south.

The list was unanimously approved by the City Council Thursday night, and it will be added to the county’s project submittal list that will be going to the Georgia Department of Transportation for initial vetting. Read More»

Joseph “Joe” A. Marsella, 74, Peachtree City

Joseph “Joe” A. Marsella, 74, a Peachtree City resident, formerly of Philadelphia, PA and New York died March 15, 2011.

Mr. Marsella was preceded in death by his son Kenneth Marsella.

Joe worked for Pan American Airline for 32 years, and also Delta Airlines. He also served his country in the U.S.A.F..

Juanita Kirkpatrick Wilhelm, 82, Peachtree City

Juanita Kirkpatrick Wilhelm, 82, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2011 in Peachtree City, GA after having been diagnosed with lung cancer in January of this year.

Juanita was born and raised in Paint Rock Valley, Alabama and had resided in Huntsville for the last nine years. She lived in Orlando, Florida from 1956-2002 with her husband of 56 years, George Brooks Wilhelm, who passed away in 2002. Wreck at Flat Creek and Golfview in PTC closes road

The Peachtree City Police department is currently working a two vehicle wreck at the intersection of Flat Creek Road and Golfview Drive.  The east entrance to Golfview from Flat Creek is completely closed.  Motorists can access Golfview from the west side. 

Police department spokesperson Rosanna Dove at approximately 4:15 p.m. Thursday said motorists should expect to be stopped and be required to turn around if on Flat Creek Road from Peachtree Pkwy. 

At this point there has been one injury reported though it is not thought to be life-threatening, said Dove. Read More»

Lily Lebby Marvin Smith, Peachtree City

Mrs. Lily Lebby Marvin Smith died at her residence on March 7, 2011. She was born in Charleston, SC on September 3, 1925, but had lived in Peachtree City for the last 22 years. Her parents and her two brothers predeceased her. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Herbert P. Smith. She also leaves her three daughters, Sarah Smith of Peachtree City, Karen (John) Harmon of Peachtree City, and Ginny (Peter) Pellegrinelli of Jacksonville, FL. She also leaves two devoted grandsons, Billy and Mike of Peachtree City.  Read More»
