The Peachtree City Chapter of New Neighbors League Club (NNLC) recently installed the officers of their summer/fall board.  From left are Shirley Jensen, President; Sheila Ostrofsky, First Vice President; Susan Johnson, Second Vice President; Carlyn Nankervis, Secretary; Kathy Burnett, Treasurer.  NNLC’s purpose is to help residence new to the area to meet and make friends by offering a wide range of activities. Peeples Elementary sweeps 2010 Power Parade

Peeples Elementary won top honors in the 19th annual Fayette Youth Power Parade, a walk-a-thon held in Fayette County elementary schools Mar. 29 through Apr. 2.  The school came in first place and raised $7,391.10 for Fayette Youth Protection Homes, a local non-profit organization which provides shelter and support for children who have been the victims of abuse or neglect. Booth Middle School students raise $1,932 through St. Jude Math-A-Thon to help kids battling cancer

Students at J.C. Booth Middle School recently participated in the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Math-A-Thon program and raised $1,932 to help kids battling cancer and other deadly diseases at St. Jude, one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers. The community of Peachtree City supported Booth students by making donations in honor of their participation in the program. Read More»

Chef at Wyndham Peachtree wins prestigious cooking award

Competitive cooking hadn’t been high on Chef John Kerkeslager’s priority list until this year. The last contest he’d entered was a quarter century ago, as a tenth grader taking food preparation classes in Lebanon, Penn. The competition was fierce and Kerkeslager came up with dishes including Seasoned Chicken Parmesan and Braised Celery Hearts that he thought were pretty good. The class instructor disagreed. Young John finished sixth in a field of six.

“That stayed with me for awhile, and whenever opportunities to compete came up, I sort of blew them off,” Kerkeslager said. Read More»

New vacant building rules proposed for PTC

Owners must register, pay $200 fee, maintain property interior and exterior

Inspection and re-inspection fees have been dropped from a Peachtree City staff proposal to require all vacant homes and buildings to be registered with the city.

Owners of such properties, both residential and commercial, will still have to pay an annual $200 fee to the city when registering their structure, under the revised proposal that will be discussed by the City Council Thursday night.

The ordinance also requires broken windows to be repaired or replaced within 14 days of the property owner being notified, and windows may not be boarded up for longer than 14 days. Read More»

Jeffrey Monroe Kimbro, 24, of Peachtree City

Jeffrey Monroe Kimbro passed away on May 3, 2010 at the age of 24.

He was born February 24, 1986 in Fontana, CA to Tony and Pam Kimbro.

Jeff attended Peachtree City schools and graduated from Starr's Mill High School in 2004. Growing up, he attended Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church and was active in the youth group. He went on two mission trips while in high school to Peru. He worked at Chick-fil-A for 2 1/2 years before attending Georgia State University upon graduation. Read More»

Holly Grove celebrates 113 years

The Holly Grove Church family will celebrate its 113th Anniversary this year. The celebration will begin with a Fun Fest on Saturday, May 15. The day will consist of a yard sale and breakfast starting at 8 a.m., followed by games and activities for the children, fish fry, bake sale, and live entertainment.
