PTC Council eyes stormwater budget, oath of office

With a relatively light agenda Thursday night, the Peachtree City Council will discuss a proposed change to the oath of office administered to mayor, mayor pro tem and council members.

The idea for the language change came about from Councilwoman Vanessa Fleisch, according to a staff memo, because she wanted to adopt some of the phrases from the firefighter’s oath.

PTC Girl Scout wins gold award with focus on babies’ health

Theresa Daugherty was recently awarded the highest honor in Girl Scouts: the Gold Award. Her project, “Relax for the Babies,” impacted the maternity center at local hospitals, Piedmont Fayette Hospital and Southern Regional Medical Center.

Daugherty chose this project because she wanted to give the babies every chance she could to be healthy. She collected items for the goodie bags that would go to the women on bed rest as well as different things for the women to do by themselves or with their family and friends. Read More»

Nicole Corrin DuPre engaged to Joshua Eric Coleman

Nicole Corrin DuPre and Joshua Eric Coleman are to be married on May 4, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Peachtree City.

The bride is the daughter of Ms. Neal Dow DuPre and the late Thomas Lee DuPre of Peachtree City. She is the granddaughter of the late Fred and Fern Dow of Indianola, Neb. and the late Henry and Ruth DuPre of Atlanta, Ga.

The groom is the son of Grady and Dixie Coleman of Lawrenceville, Ga. He is the grandson of the late Grady and Gladys Coleman of Gulfport, Miss. and Edna and the late Leroy Winger of Grove City, Pa. Read More»

Donald Leverton Clarke, age 84

Mr. Donald Leverton Clarke, born July 7, 1928 in Lowell, Mass. died March 15, 2013 of renal failure at his home in Peachtree City, Ga.

He moved to Nutley, N.J. in 1939 where he met his wife Mildred Jane Elsishans. In 1992, they retired to the bay front in Manahawkin, N.J. before coming to Peachtree City in 2004 to live near their daughter and family. Donald worked for Esso/Exxon for 30 years and was a member of the New Jersey State Fireman's Association due to his many years as a Nutley Volunteer Fireman.

Donald was preceded in death by his son Greg Clarke in 2008. Read More»

PTC’s ticket cops keep cash rolling in

The Peachtree City Police Department is still at it, writing citations and warnings at an unbelievable rate of over 46 per day.

In calendar year 2012 the PTCPD issued a total of 17,005. That’s almost two citations or warnings every hour, 24 hours a day, seven days a week all year long.

Palm Sunday at COS will feature story of Jesus’s last week

Worship at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church March 23-24 will be built around a dramatic re-telling of the events of Jesus’ last week.

“The Cry of the Whole Congregation” by Walter Wangerin employs a narrator; the voices of Judas, Peter, and Pilate; a dancer; a soloist; and all worshipers.

The congregation actively participates by reading appointed lines and singing together.

Each of the four services (Saturday at 7 p.m., Sunday at 8:30, 10:50 and 11 a.m.) has a different team of readers. Soloists are Karl Dietmeyer and Charlie Armour. Dancers are Ashley Hall and Ann Perez. Read More»

Greek Independence Day planned

St. Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Church invites the community to enjoy dancing, fun and fellowship at the Greek Independence Day Celebration on Sunday, March 24.

The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 9 a.m. and the celebration follows at the Event Center at 313 Dividend Drive in Peachtree City.

Shrimp and drinks are provided. Those attending are requested to bring a Lenten side dish to share.

All free will donations will benefit the Greece Relief Fund established by His Eminence, Metropolitan Alexios.
