Fayette remembers those who fell, those who returned

Hundreds of Fayette County residents took time to remember Monday during Memorial Day ceremonies in Peachtree City and Fayetteville.

The day began in Peachtree City as veterans laid a wreath at the Veterans Memorial in remembrance of the hundreds of thousands who have laid their lives down for the United States of America in the various wars and conflicts, ranging from the American Revolution against Britain to the ongoing war in Afghanistan.

Yes, Sandy Creek H.S. used to be better place

I read Concerned Parent’s letter in the May 15 issue and definitely agree with him or her: Yes, it is very sad how the once great Sandy Creek High School has deteriorated.

I am the parent of a child who attended and graduated from Sandy Creek in the mid to late ’90s. Back then when it was a state of the art school in technology, we really wanted our child to attend it and made special efforts such as a car pool because we felt it offered so many more advantages over the other high schools. Learn Bible basics in ‘Bible 101’ class at Covenant Presbyterian

Starting June 2, Pastors Bob Edmiston and Jamie Lambert at Covenant Presbyterian will be teaching the basics of the Bible — what it’s all about, how the stories of the Old Testament connect to the New Testament, stories of the Bible and other topics.

Everyone of every tongue, tribe, and nation regardless of age, sex, or race is invited.

The class will start at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday through the month of July.

Youth rally set for June 8 at Word of Life Free Methodist

Word of Life Free Methodist Church in Fayetteville will host a Youth Rally on June 8 from noon until 4 p.m. in the church parking lot.

The event will feature free food, free games, free giveaways, live music and vendors. The church also is looking for donations to help with its ministry for human trafficking around the world. The church is at 405 Fayette Place Fayetteville, behind the Dairy Queen in the Harvest Community Shopping Center, in front of the Wings and Things Restaurant.

More than 1,600 will graduate Friday in Fayette

Graduation for the Class of 2013 is here. Graduation ceremonies for the 1,663 seniors across the Fayette County School System are scheduled for Friday at the respective high schools.

The five high schools will hold graduation ceremonies at their respective stadiums at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 24.

Inclement weather plans call for each school to hold the ceremonies in the same locations on Saturday, May 25.

If held Saturday, ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. at Sandy Creek and at 10 a.m. at the other schools.

James William Brown, age 73

Mr. James William Brown, age 73, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Ann Brown; daughter, Patricia Ramsey and her husband, Derek of Fayetteville; sister, Charlene Patrick of Woodstock; grandchildren, Dillon Ramsey and Logan Ramsey.

Wesley is survived by his mother and step-dad, Tammy and David Callaway of Fayetteville; daughter, 'Madison' Nicole Daly (age 5) of McDonough; father and step-mother, Melvin and Pamela Daly of Griffin; aunts, uncles, and cousins.
