Inez Jones Pye, 98, of Fayetteville died January 15, 2011.

Mrs. Pye was born in Tyrone May 26, 1912 to Willie & Daisy Jones where she was raised and lived until she married William Pye in August 1931, and moved to Fayetteville and has lived here since. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband of 60 years.

Survivors include son Hoyt & Carolyn Pye of Cartersville; daughter Harriett & Ronald Parham of Fayette County; 4 grandsons, 10 great grandchildren; sister Margie & Billy Braswell; brother Emory & Barbara Jones. Read More»

Burglars hit F’ville Foot Locker early Thursday

Fayetteville Police are searching for three suspects that burglarized the Foot Locker store at the Fayette Pavilion early Thursday morning.

Department spokesperson Mike Whitlow said surveillance video captured three suspects burglarizing a Fayetteville Foot Locker store early Thursday at approximately 4 a.m.

Whitlow said a silver vehicle, possibly a newer model crossover, backed up to the front door of the store. Three males exited the vehicle and shattered the front door using a tool similar to the Halligan tool fire departments use, Whitlow said. Read More»

Atlanta mayor added to regional transportation committee

At the behest of Georgia House Speaker David Ralston, the five-member executive committee of the metro Atlanta Regional Transportation Roundtable was tweaked a bit at a hastily-called meeting today.

The change added Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed to the executive committee, which is charged with preparing a list of recommended projects to be funded by a potential 10-year 1 percent region-wide sales tax referendum that would include Fayette County. Read More»

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by two husbands Louis Henry Williams and James L. Smith.

Tuesday's court cases rescheduled for Fayetteville

The court cases postponed for Fayetteville Municipal Court on January 11, 2011 due to icy road conditions, have been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at 8:00 a.m., officials said today.

F’ville reviews trespassing ordinance

The Fayetteville City Council on Jan. 6 got a look at the first reading of a proposed unauthorized entry ordinance intended to keep such minor offenses adjudicated in city court.

Police Chief Steve Heaton said the intent of the ordinance is to assist officers in addressing trespassing on private property and to provide for city charges processed in city court rather than the customary state charges that require the offender to be processed in state court. The first offense for trespassing, whether under state law or city ordinance, is a warning, Heaton added. Read More»

He was a WWII veteran.
