Fayette Family Church’s group ministries, Life Groups, are free and open to the community and will run weekly through May 7. Classes meet in homes and at the church, 1729 Ga. Hwy. 54 W., Fayetteville.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Byrd of Fayetteville announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Ryan Byrd, to Jarod Richard Mansour, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mansour of Goose Creek, S.C.

The bride-to-be is a 1999 graduate of Fayette County High School and a graduate of the University of Georgia with bachelor and masters degrees in statistics and mathematics education. The bride is the daughter of Grant and Joanne Baker of Fayetteville, and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Heath and the late Lt. Col. and Mrs. Wallace I. Baker, all of Enterprise, Ala. She is a graduate of Woodward Academy and Georgia Southern University where she received a bachelor of science in hotel and restaurant management. Heaton shows downward trend in crime at city retreat

Fayetteville Police Chief Steve Heaton used the City Council retreat last week to unveil the city’s crime statistics for 2010. That data showed that Fayetteville has fewer violent crimes than nearly every other city in Georgia of similar size, that serious crimes continue to be on a downward trend and that the actual crime at the Fayette Pavilion continues to be more perception than reality. Patricia Ann “Pat” Gunny, 69, formerly of Fayetteville

Patricia Ann “Pat” Gunny, 69, of Newnan, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away March 11, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Gunny retired from JC Penny after 35 years. She loved bird watching, especially hummingbirds. She also enjoyed gardening. Mrs. Gunny loved her grandchildren, dogs, and grand-dogs, and she especially loved her great-grandson Bentley. Read More»

The Fayette County Lady Tigers built a 19 point lead in the Class AAAA championship game, saw it cut to four points and hung on to win 55-45.

Cheryl Lynn Dusenbury, 61, of Fayetteville

Cheryl Lynn Dusenbury, 61, of Fayetteville, died March 9, 2011.

She was employed by Coca-Cola for 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Olin and Ibera Howell, and her sister Carol Simon.

She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Russell Dusenbury; son Jody Dusenbury of Fayetteville; sister Kathy (Milton) Fisher of Fayetteville; loving nieces Laurie (Joey) Baker of McDonough and Kristy (Kim) Alley of Locust Grove, and several other nieces and nephews. Read More»
