Mrs. Anne Emerson, age 90, of Fayetteville, died April 8, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, William Donahue Emerson.

Lareen Peeples, loving wife, mother, proud grandmother, and friend, 56, of Fayetteville, passed away April 7, 2011.

Mrs. Peeples was retired from the U.S. government at FORSCOM Headquarters G-3/5/7 Chief Force Management. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Fayetteville.

Mold issues become personal in tenant-landlord squabble

For Morgan and Jesse Davis it is a story they say did not have a good resolution. The young couple insist they have been encountering a problem with mold in their apartment on Stonewall Avenue in Fayetteville for four months and have health concerns for their 6-month-old daughter.

Their landlord tells a different story, saying the substance looked more like mildew and that the couple might have been using their claims of mold as a reason to break the lease. Read More»

Burglars hit Fayetteville Verizon store 2nd time in a month

The Verizon store on Promenade Parkway was burglarized twice in the month of March. Nothing was apparently stolen during the March 31 break-in while in the March 4 burglary a small number of iPhones were stolen.

Fayetteville Police were alerted to the March 31 break-in by an alarm call at approximately 10:30 p.m., said department spokesperson Mike Whitlow.

An unknown number of persons entered the building after breaking through a glass portion of the storefront, then attempted without success to enter the storage room, Whitlow said, adding that nothing appeared to have been stolen. Read More»

F'ville Rite-Aid hit by snatch-and-grab robber

Fayetteville Police are searching for a man in connection with an April 4 snatch-and-grab robbery at the Rite-Aid drug store on South Glynn Street.

Department spokesperson Mike Whitlow said the man, described as wearing a dark t-shirt and sunglasses and in his 40s, entered the store at approximately 8 p.m.

The man brought a candy bar to the cash register and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash when the cashier opened the register.

The man then fled the scene, Whitlow said.

Update: A second robbery on April 7 has occurred in Fayetteville in a span of six hours. The first was at a florist on South Glynn Street at 10 a.m. The second was at the Rite-Aid pharmacy on Ga. Gas leak snarls S. Fayetteville traffic

A mid-morning natural gas leak April 7 at the new RaceTrac gas station on South Glynn Street caused Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services officials to divert traffic around a heavily-traveled section of Ga. Highway 85 at the Fayetteville city limits.

The intersection of Highways 85 and 92 and Ramah Road was completely shut down, causing traffic to back up significantly on Beauregard Boulevard as motorists made their way around the mess. The leak was repaired and the roads re-opened by 3:15 p.m., said Fayette FES Capt. Pete Nelms Read More»
