F’ville imposes moratorium on sweepstakes gaming

The Fayetteville City Council last week imposed a six-month moratorium on new businesses such as the Sweepstakes Internet Cafe.

The action comes after the business in Hudson Plaza on North Glynn Street that recently secured a business license to operate a business center was reported to been engaging in cash pay-outs for customers playing sweepstakes games on the premises.

Fayetteville City Manager Joe Morton Tuesday morning said the company indicated on the business license application that it would be providing services such as copying, printing and computer access. Read More»

Dear Chairman Frady: I attended my first Fayette County Workshop Meeting today because I fear our current lifestyle is in dire jeopardy if we are snared by ARC’s lure of money to fund local transportation projects in exchange for our joining them in their transit plan, which seems to have as its ultimate goal bringing mass transit to all the counties in the ARC.

At the last commissioners’ workshop meeting, Commissioner Steve Brown presented a resolution requesting the elimination of all planned public mass transit projects within Fayette County’s boundaries.

Lenten lunches begin today at Fayetteville First Methodist

The Lenten Lunch program held annually by Fayetteville First United Methodist Church will begin today, March 9, at noon with a light lunch and a brief program given by the Rev. Mark Westmoreland, senior minister at FFUMC. Cost of the lunch is $2.

Lunches will continue each Thursday during Lent, beginning March 17, with a different speaker each week and light lunch provided by the United Methodist Women’s circle groups.

Jean McLaurine Cassimus, 87, of Fayetteville, GA, went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2011. Jean showed godly hospitality to all who entered her home and was an active servant of those in need. She also served faithfully in Grace Evangelical Church for many years.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, William Dawson Cassimus, brother George McLaurine, and sister Eunice McLaurine Stevens.
