Bernadine Ulaine Hilfiker passed peacefully March 26, 2011, at her home in Fayetteville, Ga.

She was born March 1, 1917, to Dr. and Mrs. Charles W. Ihle in Cleghorn, Iowa. She met her partner in life, Everett S. (Hil) Hilfiker, while working as a nurse at Pomona Valley Hospital, Ca. Their marriage lasted 68 years and produced three successful daughters. Bernie was active in her church, loved gardening, reading, literature, and flowers. Mr. Ven I. Gella, 63, of Fayetteville, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2011.

Mr. Gella was born on May 24, 1947 in the Philippines. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy. After serving in the Navy he began his career with Pan Am and later retired from Delta Air Lines. He was currently employed at World Airways.

5 F’ville stores fined for selling alcohol to minors in Dec. police sting

The Fayetteville City Council on March 17 voted to impose $1,000 fines and warnings to five local businesses for selling alcohol to a minor.

Police Chief Steve Heaton in recommending the fines and violations said that on Nov. 26 the police department conducted an investigation of alcohol serving permit compliance at several businesses throughout the city.

During the operation, five people at five businesses were cited for selling alcohol to a minor and one of them was cited for the additional charge of not having a server’s permit, Heaton said. Read More»

F’ville OK’s bid for Grady-Beauregard roundabout

There is about to be a big — round —change coming to the busy intersection of Grady Avenue and Beauregard Boulevard in Fayetteville.

Initial work will begin in April and will lead to a re-worked intersection that will feature a roundabout in place of the current four-way stop. The $553,000 bid for the project was approved March 17 by the Fayetteville City Council. Read More»

The runners and walkers were out Saturday morning for the 3rd Annual March for Meals 5K/1 Mile Run/Walk held at the Fayette Senior Services (FSS) Life Enrichment Center in Fayetteville. Public should pack commission meeting

Last year, a majority of our voters decided that it was time to take back Fayette County. They voted in commissioners Allen McCarty and Steve Brown, whose major campaign issues were no SPLOST, no mass transit, and fighting the West Fayetteville Bypass.

Unfortunately, the three other commissioners are still in favor of building the road. While the new commissioners are hard at work opposing the bypass, commissioners Frady, Hearn and Horgan have continued to turn a deaf ear to the public’s outcry, steadily growing louder. Read More»
