FFUMC offers FPU classes

Fayetteville First United Methodist Church (FFUMC) will offer four courses in Financial Peace University (13 week course) in February and March. All will be held at the church.

The first course will begin Sunday, Feb. 7, and will be held from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

The second course will begin Thursday, Feb. 18 and will be held from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.

The third course will also start Thursday, Feb. 18, and will be held from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

The fourth course will begin Wednesday, March 3, and will be held from 6:15 – 8:15 p.m.

Woolsey Baptist Church is beginning a new schedule this Sunday morning, Feb. 7.

The church will offer two worship opportunities — a traditional worship service featuring the choir and orchestra beginning at 9:30 a.m. and a contemporary worship service featuring the praise team beginning at 11 a.m.

Erica L. Hall and Lyle J. Moore

Retired U.S. Army Maj. John B. Jr. and Tamra Hall of Fayetteville announce the engagement of their daughter, Erica L. Hall, to Lyle J. Moore, son of Lyle F. and Rhonda T. Moore of Powder Springs.

The bride-to-be holds a master’s degree from Tuskegee University and is an occupational therapist.

The groom-elect is a 2002 graduate of McEachern High School and a 2006 graduate of Fort Valley State University. He is employed with the Atlanta Police Department.

The wedding will be in April, 2010, at Glendalough Manor.

The couple will reside in Rex.

Leonard Anniversary

Charles and Kay Leonard

Charles and Kay Leonard will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 5, 2010. They were married Feb. 5, 1960,at Jefferson Park Christian Church in East Point.

They have four children, eight grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

The Leonards have lived in Fayetteville for the past 30 years and still reside there.

Scott and Katie Jarrett of Fayetteville announce the birth of their daughter, Jill Madison Jarrett, born Jan. 29, 2010, at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz. and was 20 1/2 inches long.

Cop quits after sex inquiry in F’ville

Long-time Fayetteville Police Lt. David Webb has been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing that stemmed from a September allegation of the sexual assault of a woman alleged to have occurred a year earlier at her place of employment in Fayetteville.

Webb has resigned from the department, and two other officers have been disciplined for policy violations in connection with the case, Fayetteville Police Chief Steve Heaton said. Read More»

Victim: ‘Afraid for my life’

Armed robbery trial continues in F’ville

A Fayette man who was robbed at gunpoint off Layden Avenue and Kenwood Road Jan. 24, 2009 testified in court Monday that when the gunman pointed a pistol at his head, “I was afraid for my life.”

Joseph Gray, 19, testified that the gunman reached into his pockets and took his wallet, his cellphone and his keys. Read More»

F’ville authorizes sidewalk project

The Fayetteville City Council last week voted to authorize a resolution for a sidewalk installation project through Georgia Dept. of Transportation (GDOT) and U.S. Dept. of Transportation. The $630,000 project includes a 20 percent match by the city.

The project specifies three sidewalk areas that include White Road from Ga. Highway 314 to Heaton Lakes, Ga. Highway 92 (Forrest Avenue) from Ga. Highway 85 to Timberlane Drive and Hood Avenue from Hwy. 85 to Gingercake Landings, according to City Engineer Don Easterbrook. Read More»

Sheriffs charge 3 for phony checks

Fayette County Sheriff’s detectives have obtained arrest warrants for three people this month for passing phony checks at local businesses on three separate occasions.

Lequonza Allen, 33, of Elberton is charged with identity fraud for cashing a fraudulent check on Dec. 11 at Bank of America that belonged to a Fayette County resident.

Kiara Paige, 19, of Jonesboro is charged with identity fraud for cashing a fraudulent check on Dec. 17 at Bank of America that belonged to a Fayette County resident. Read More»

Juanita A. Booth, 83, Fayetteville, died Jan. 14, 2010. A Memorial serviced was held at Ephesus Baptist Church, Winston, Ga. Cremation Society of Georgia was in charge.
