Rolling Hills youth minister to homeless

On Dec. 5, the Youth Group from Rolling Hills Baptist Church in Fayetteville, along with several adults from the congregation, traveled to downtown Atlanta to minister to approximately 200 homeless men and women.

While there, the group witnessed to individuals, and handed out sweatshirts and toiletry bags containing deodorant, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and hand lotion.

The Rolling Hills Youth Group makes quarterly trips to Atlanta to serve the homeless; feeding and distributing much needed items such as clothing, hygiene products, and shoes. Read More»

Fitzgibbon birth

Scotty and Heidi Fitzgibbon of Fayetteville announce the birth of their son, Asher Daniel, on Nov. 16, 2010. He was born at Piedmont Fayette hospital, weighing 8 lbs., 7 oz. Grandparents are Gary and Becky Fitzgibbon of Jackson, Scott and Sally Simon of Peachtree City, and Ken Webb of Halls, Tenn.

FCHS debate team has good start to season

The Fayette County High School debate team has wrapped up their first semester of competitions which included ten competitions all around Georgia. During the semester, FCHS has qualified seventeen (17) students to the State Championship which is third most in the State. Fayette County has qualified the most Public Forum debaters in the State to the State Championship with eleven. Read More»

Annie “Opal” Carter, 86, of Fayetteville passed away December 10, 2010.

Survivors include daughters Barbara & Richard Fogg of Sharpsburg and Brenda & Russell Bowman of Fayetteville, sons William R. & Susan Carter of Jackson , GA. and Richard Carter of Fayetteville ; 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Monday, December 13, 2010 at Carl J. Mowell & Son Fayetteville Chapel with Rev. Lynn McClain officiating. The burial will follow at Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery .

Mrs. Fanny Joiner, 87, of Fayetteville

Mrs. Fanny Joiner, of Fayetteville, passed away on December 8, 2010 at the age of 87.

Mrs. Joiner was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose favorite times were spent reading her Bible, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. Fanny had a green thumb. She was known for her beautiful caladiums among other flowers, which once allowed her garden to be chosen as “garden of the month.” She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Peachtree City. Order ornaments for American Legion tree by Wednesday

The Civitans and United Daughters of the Confederacy continue to offer the community the chance to order personalized Christmas ornaments to honor our veterans. The tree is located in front of the American Legion Post 105 Log Cabin in Fayetteville and is being decorated with 6 inch Christmas balls.  Individuals may order an ornament for $10 to honor a veteran. The name, rank, branch of service and date served will be printed on each ornament. To place your order, contact Linda Robinson, 770-460-1119.  Deadline to order is Dec. 15. The ornaments will be available for pickup after the holidays.

F’ville Police make arrest in ‘07 Zaxby’s armed robbery

The Fayetteville Police today arrested Erika Tiggs, a former Zaxby’s restaurant employee, for her part in an armed robbery which had occurred at the Fayetteville Zaxby’s.

On August 6, 2007, two suspects entered the Zaxby’s store on GA Hwy 85, forced the employees into a cooler and robbed the store of approximately $2,000 in cash, said department spokesperson Det. Mike Whitlow. Read More»

Ellie Mae McElroy, 96, of Fayetteville

Ellie Mae McElroy, born June 8, 1914, went to be with the Lord December 9, 2010 at the age of 96.

She is preceded in death by her husband Henry McElroy, Sr., grandson Dennis McElroy, granddaughter Nicki McElroy and all her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by sons Hugh McElroy, Jr. and Julia McElroy, Perry Davis McElroy and Barbara McElroy, daughter Dot Sanders and Charles Sanders, eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren and two nieces living in California. Read More»
