SFM plans yard sale May 20, 21

Square Foot Ministry, a ministry of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, is now accepting items for its annual yard sale planned for May 20 and 21.

Items that will be accepted include furniture, books, jewelry., small appliances, knick-knacks, toys, linens, sporting equipment and household goods in good, saleable condition.

Items not accepted include clothing, mattresses or box springs.

FFUMC to offer summer music camp

Fayetteville First United Methodist Church in downtown Fayetteville will offer a summer music camp for children in kindergarten through sixth grade July 11-15.

Children will learn about strings, wind instruments, singing, rhythm and more.

Classes will meet every day from 9 a.m. until noon. The cost is $60 for the week.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mrs. G.C. Hardison and the late G.C. Hardison of Birmingham, Ala., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul Quenelle of Talladega, Ala. Southern Crescent Chorale at The Villages May 14

The Southern Crescent Chorale makes its eighth appearance at the Villages Amphitheater with “toe tapping music” at their concert “Dancin’!” on Saturday, May 14 at 8 p.m.

The 70 voice choir will fill the evening air with dance music of all types from country and R & B to dance standards and movie favorites. ATM stolen from F'ville Walgreens

Fayetteville Police are looking for two men responsible for crashing through the front of the Walgreens pharmacy on South Glynn Street in the early hours of May 2 and making off with the store’s ATM machine.

Department spokesperson Steve Crawshaw said that two men in a silver truck backed into the Walgreens building at approximately 3:30 a.m. on May 2. The men loaded the ATM machine in the truck and drove off, Crawshaw said, adding that the ATM was located near the front door. Read More»

Sgt. Philip John Pekarske, of Jacksonville, NC, formerly of Fayetteville, GA, was called to a higher duty on April 27, 2011.

He was born on April 7, 1985 in Glendale Heights, IL. Philip was a loving and supportive husband, son, brother and friend. He was a 2003 graduate of Fayette County High School. Mary Virginia McDaniel Roper, age 92 of Fayetteville

Mrs. Mary Virginia McDaniel Roper “Jennie”, age 92 of Fayetteville, formally of Smyrna and Carrollton died Wednesday April 22, 2011.

Mrs. Roper was a Veteran of W.W.II – Naval Reserve W.A.V.E.S. She was a former music teacher and Legal Secretary with City Service. She was an Art student of the University of West Georgia at the age of 70. Mrs. Roper was a graduate of the University of South Carolina AB with a Major in music.
