F'ville council helps struggling businesses

The Fayetteville City Council March 4 continued its previous decision to lessen restrictions on business banners, stake signs and A-frame signs that was set to expire March 5. The recession-driven extension will be in effect until Sept. 5.

The council’s vote would allow the display of four banner signs per year rather than the two permitted under the ordinance. Banners can be displayed one at a time and attached to the building per ordinance requirements. Read More»

The Villages gets web-based ticketing system for 2010

This year, the Villages Amphitheater enters the modern age with a new, web-based ticketing system to assist with and enhance box office sales.

Officially launched on February 24, the new system allows users to view and purchase any available seats for the 2010 Summer Concert Series directly from the villagesamphitheater.com website. Former mayor Dettmering inducted into FCHS Hall of Fame

Jack Dettmering being inducted into the Fayette County High School Hall of Fame as part of the 2010 class.

Among the alumni of Fayette County High School honored at its Hall of Fame banquet, was the late Jack Dettmering. He served as a city councilman from 1963 to 1968 and as mayor from 1968 to 1988. Fayetteville offers Citizens Police Academy

In an effort to increase the community involvement with the Fayetteville Police Department and offer insight into the services it provides, the department will be hosting the fourth annual Citizens Police Academy at the Fayetteville Police Department. The purpose of the academy is to foster better communication between citizens and police through education.

The Citizens Police Academy will consist of two-hour classes held each week on Thursday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., for 12 weeks. This instruction is comprehensive, covering a different area of the Police Department each week. Read More»

Mr. Frank W. Jones Jr of Jonesboro, formerly of Fayetteville , died March 2, 2010.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife Erma C. Jones. He retired from Atlanta Gas Light with 41 years of service.

Arrest made in Fayetteville post office robbery

U.S. Postal Inspectors have arrested one of two men believed to have robbed a contract truck driver at the Fayetteville Post Office Jan. 29.
Anthony Maddox was arrested Feb. 18, said Postal Inspector Yulanda Burns.
