New GriefShare session starts May 4 at FFBC

On May 4, Fayetteville First Baptist Church will begin a new session of GriefShare, a 13-week Bible based program for those who have lost a loved one. The class meets each Tuesday from 6:30-8 p.m. Each class begins with a video followed by group discussion. There is no charge for the class.

The program is open to people of all ages in the community and surrounding areas, whether the loss is recent or in the past.

Those who have lost a spouse, a child, a parent, a sibling, a relative or a close friend are encouraged to join this new session. Read More»

Mom arrested for holding knife to daughter’s throat

A Fayetteville woman was arrested after an April 2 altercation with her daughter during which the she held a knife to the 15-year-old’s throat, police said.
Janis Miles, 42, was charged with aggravated assault with a knife, according to Fayetteville police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw. The daughter called 911 to report the incident, Crawshaw said.

Crawshaw said the two were arguing over flyers or letters that the mother was typing for her daughter. Miles later told officers that during the argument her daughter elbowed her in the stomach, Crawshaw said. Read More»

Mr. Ted Carter Tolar, of Fayetteville

Mr. Ted Carter Tolar, of Fayetteville, formerly of Hapeville, passed away on April 4, 2010 at the age of 65.

Mr. Tolar was an eight-year Navy veteran who proudly served on the Sturgeon class submarine, the U.S.S. Spadefish. Following his military service, he began a career in the HVAC industry. Ted retired from Delta Air Lines with 27 years service after which he began Tolar Mechanical Service and then later worked for the Gilreath Service Co.

He was a member of the College Park Masonic Lodge and a longtime member of the Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church. Read More»

Herman Rudolph Helton, age 81, of Fayetteville, Ga., left his earthly home and joined his Heavenly Father on April 4, 2010.

He was born on May 27, 1928 in Atlanta, Ga., the son of the late Sue King and Herman R. Helton. Herman graduated from Fulton High School in Atlanta. He served his country as a Merchant Marine. Read More»

Mr. James Leroy Thomas, 73, of Concord, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away on March 30, 2010.

Mr. Thomas retired in 1992, as a sergeant from the city of Fayetteville Police Department and proudly saw his two sons and a grandson follow into law enforcement. Rotary donation to help Fayetteville get a new 'welcome' sign

Fayetteville Main Street received a $1,500 donation on Monday from the Rotary Club of Fayetteville. The donation will help pay for design services for a new “Welcome to Fayetteville” sign that will replace the current sign located at the Hwy 54W split, in front of the new Regions Bank building.
