Mr. Hoke Stephens, 82, of Fayetteville, GA died May 1, 2010.

He was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Stephens.

He is survived his two sons, Robert Stephens and Rhonda Osborne of Fayetteville and David and Shirley Stephens of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren Christopher, Bryan, Lance, and Savannah; three great grandchildren; brother Roy Stephens of Orlando, FL as well as nieces and nephews. Read More»

Risen Fest to rock Fayetteville May 8

Organizers recently announced the 2010 date for the popular Christian music festival Risen Fest. This second annual, free admission event will take place on May 8, at 7 p.m. at The Villages Amphitheater in Fayetteville.

Bringing more than 1,000 people in 2009, Risen Fest launched its explosive first annual kick-off as a community outreach event to celebrate the church’s five year anniversary. Askew and Hartley to be honored by F'ville City Council

Though the agenda at the Thursday night Fayetteville City Council will be brief, it will be a time to recognize the military service police officers Glenn Askew and Warren Hartley as they return from a 14-month deployment in the Middle East and central Asia.

Mrs. Linda Jane Harrison, 72, formerly of Fayetteville

Mrs. Linda Jane Harrison, of Peachtree City, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away on April 29, 2010 at the age of 72.

Linda’s life revolved around her faith, her family, her friends and she walked with God daily. She was an active member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she served as a member of the Altar Circle, The Circle of Friends and as a member of the Eucharistic Adoration. She was a loving mother, grandmother and a friend to many. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, reading the newspaper and working crossword puzzles. Read More»

Medford Allen Branch, 83, of Fayetteville, died April 28, 2010.

He served his country in WWII in the US Marine Corps. Mr. Branch owned his own flight school, Aim Aviation, and was also the owner of Business Locksmith Services.

He is survived by his wife Dottie; son Max and his wife Debbie Branch; daughter Augusta and her husband Ed Davis; step-daughter Angie and her husband Rob Napier; grandchildren Sean and Joshua Branch, Aaron and Elizabeth Davis and Kennedy Napier; great-grandchildren; a brother and sisters; and nieces and nephews. Chamber: Regional transportation SPLOST is good for Fayette

Last week, the Georgia General Assembly, in an overwhelmingly bipartisan effort, passed legislation that allows voters to decide in regions throughout Georgia if they want to approve a 1 percent sales and use tax for regional transportation investments.

As a broad overview, the legislation creates 12 regional districts across the state. “Regional roundtables” comprised of local elected officials (county commissions chairs and a mayor from each county) will develop a project list to be voted on by citizens in the 2012 general primary. Read More»

Fayetteville police hold junior police academy

This year the Fayetteville Police Department is hosting their seventh annual Junior Police Academy. This is an academy for children who have completed the sixth grade and/or going into the seventh, eight, or ninth grades and live in Fayette County.

The dates for the academy are July 26-29. The academy day begins at 8 a.m. and is over by 4 p.m. The week consists of the recruits learning many different facets of police work to include but not limited to Defensive Tactics, Traffic Laws, DUI laws, K-9, Crime Scene Processing, Handcuffing - just to name a few. Laura Gladys Scott, 90, of Fayetteville, died April 23, 2010.

Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her husband Lester Scott Sr. and a sister Wynnelle Bray.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Lester and Gail Scott; grandsons and fiancées Chase and Danielle and Kevin and Heather.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, April 26, 2010 at Carl J. Mowell & Son Fayetteville Chapel with Rev. Ken Helms officiating.
