Fayetteville considering new advertising measures in Main Street district

Call it a trial balloon to help businesses struggling in the grips of the recession. The Fayetteville City Council Thursday night will hear a proposal designed to allow businesses in the Main Street district to use certain types of inflatables for outdoor advertising.

Juvenile Justice Forum at Sams Auditorium, Apr. 27

Prominent Georgia attorney and author J. Tom Morgan will present information that every parent and teen should know. He will be joined by a panel of local experts from the school system and law enforcement to answer questions from a panel of students and parents about Georgia law and school rules pertaining to teenagers. This free, and open to the public, Juvenile Justice Forum will take place Tuesday, Apr. 27 at 7 p.m. at Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville. Fayetteville resident to compete in Triathlon and Poker Run

Fayetteville resident and Safelite AutoGlass employee Mark Walker will travel to Las Vegas to compete alongside 150 colleagues from around the U.S. and across the globe in the inaugural Safelite Triathlon and Poker Run. The event, taking place this Saturday, raises money for Ma'Afrika Tikkun, an organization benefiting children and orphans in South Africa.
 
To-date, the triathlon and poker run participants have raised more than $165,000 for the charity.

Mr. Max Howard Medert of Fayetteville, one of 'Merrill's Marauders' in WWII

Mr. Max Howard Medert of Fayetteville passed away on April 10, 2010 at the age of 86.

Max was a WWII Army veteran who proudly served as one of “Merrill’s Marauders” in China, Burma and India. Following his military career, he served on the city of Atlanta Police Force , retiring after 25 years of service.

The Rev. Marvin Curtis Taylor of Fayetteville, Ga.

The Rev. Marvin Curtis Taylor of Fayetteville, passed away on April 6, 2010 at the age of 83.

Marvin was a veteran of WWII, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Navy Chief for twenty years prior to his retirement. After following the call to defend his country, he followed a greater calling to the ministry, serving as pastor of Churches in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and West Germany. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Marvin and his wife Nora met on a blind date in December of 1949, and were married eleven days later. Their marriage lasted sixty years. Read More»

James B. Peterson of Fayetteville, Ga., has been awarded an Air Force ROTC scholarship to attend a host college or university.

He is the son of James R. and Nora D. Peterson of Bridgestone Cove, Fayetteville, Ga.

His grandfather, Earl Peterson, resides on Arncliff Drive, Shreveport, La.
