F’ville Council approves temporary ban on bright LEDs

The Fayetteville City Council on April 4 gave a 90-day approval to an ordinance that would cut visual clutter by curtailing the use of the increasing presence of “super-bright” LED lighting on business windows and roofs.

The vote on the temporary approval came with the understanding that more research on the issue would be conducted before the ordinance returns for further consideration. The motion for the 90-day approval was made by Councilman Ed Johnson who contended that not enough research has been done. Read More»

Fayette County American Legion Post 105, observed the 94th anniversary of the founding of The American Legion in 1919 at their March meeting. A special part of the event was a reunion of past and present Post 105 commanders. Commanders attending (L-R) are Russell Edmondson (1956-1957), Harold Goza (1979-1985), John Dufresne (2000-2001), Dave Niebes (2006-2007 and 2012), Denny Leander (2010-2011), B.I. 4H Club participates in Cloverleaf Project

Eleven Fayette County 4H Club members competed at the Cloverleaf Project Achievement for fifth and sixth grade students in Douglasville March 23. They all worked long and hard to prepare for the competition, which is based on presentation of an illustrated demonstration.

4-H members select a topic of interest, research and write a speech, prepare posters and other visuals to illustrate their speech, then are judged against other members in the same category.

Eleven surrounding counties competed at Project Achievement with a total of 424 students. Read More»

Auditions are set for ‘The NeverEnding Story’

A Company of Friends Theatrical Productions will hold open auditions for the Fantastical Adventure Production of “The NeverEnding Story” on April 16. All ages from 8 years through mature adults will be cast in this high action and special effects filled show. Everyone will have a wonderful time portraying the fantasy characters that come to life right in from of the audience’s eyes. Francis "Frank" Bernard Shea, Jr., 67 years old of Fayetteville, passed away on April 3, 2013.

He was born in Boston, Mass.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Shea of 42 years; 2 sons, Chris (Stephanie) and Jeff Shea; grandchildren Brittany Baggett, Logan and Benjamin Shea.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City.
