Lightning damages steeple at F’ville 1st Baptist

A bolt of lightning struck and damaged the steeple at First Baptist Church of Fayetteville Sunday as strong thunderstorms moved through the area. But worshippers gathered at the church afterwards and continued to use the building Sunday evening, according to John Munford, reporter for The Citizen. “We’re lucky it didn’t strike the courthouse where the art show was, or the county parking lot where they were doing Taste of Fayette at the time.,” Munford wrote. F'ville crews work to repair sinkhole in Hwy. 85

Fayetteville work crews on Wednesday were putting the finishing touches on the repair of a sinkhole that developed along Ga. Highway 85 just south of Ga. Highway 54 adjacent to the Fayette County government complex.

The sinkhole near the county complex and across from Johnson Street developed due to an old water line that began leaking. Read More»

The Jonesboro man arrested May 8 for the assault of a woman outside the Kohl’s department store at the Fayette Pavilion on April 27 is facing multiple charges that include robbery and financial transaction card theft. The victim’s husband last week said he was grateful for the public assistance which led to the arrest.

Stormwater: Just more gov’t. bloat

I would like to add a few things to the stormwater debate. It appears to me all the government officials are doing is adding more bureaucracy to the government when there were already road and sewer funds to take care of things like this.

Kohl’s attacker arrested by F’ville Police

Twenty-year-old Jonesboro resident Zaquaus Troyon Stubbs was arrested at his home Wednesday afternoon by Fayetteville Police. Stubbs faces multiple charges in connection to the assault of a Fayette County woman who he attacked outside the Kohl’s store at the Fayette Pavilion on April 27 and whose credit cards he used to purchase items such as gasoline.

Stubbs is charged with robbery by force, four counts of financial transaction card theft and one count of misdemeanor battery, according to Det. Mike Whitlow. Read More»
