In terms of attracting major employers and convincing local companies to expand, Georgia has started to pull ahead of others in the southeast, Georgia Chamber of Commerce President Chris Clark told the Peachtree City Rotary Club Thursday.

In the last 15 months, Georgia has had about 1,200 corporate locations or expansions, including the Pinewood Atlanta Studios project that is nearing completion in Fayetteville, said Clark, who is a Peachtree City resident and former CEO of the Fayette County Development Authority. Read More»

That was the message March 3 from 22-year-old Steven Porrello as he asked the Coweta County Commission for guidance on how a group of skateboarders might work to establish an outdoor skateboard park in Coweta.

A Coweta resident, Porrello during public comments at the conclusion of the meeting told commissioners he was interested in having an outdoor skateboard park established in the county. Read More»

Coweta's Blackburn named to state probation advisory council

Coweta County Commissioner Bob Blackburn on Feb. 28 was appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal to the Ga. County and Municipal Probation Advisory Council (CMPAC).

Blackburn chairs the Coweta County Commission and owns a real estate sale and consulting firm. He holds a certified county commissioner designation from the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia.

The CMPAC mission is to ensure the provision of quality, ethical and professional misdemeanor probation service to the courts and citizens of Georgia through evaluation, education, and regulation. Read More»

Senoia cops seek second suspect in pharmacy heists

Warrants have been issued for a second arrest in connection with the July 2013 burglary and Dec. 23 attempted burglary at the Senoia Drug Company on Ga. Highway 16. A North Carolina man is on the run, but officers serving the warrant found enough prescription pain pills and other medications to fill a small pharmacy.

Rico Ussery, 35, of Juliette was arrested March 3 on charges of burglary and attempted burglary in connection with the burglary and attempted burglary at the pharmacy on Hwy. 16, according to Senoia Police Investigator Jason Ercole. Read More»

Mailbox theft suspects chased from Tyrone to Coweta

What began March 7 as a report of stealing mail in Tyrone quickly led to a pursuit by Peachtree City Police that continued into Coweta County where Coweta deputies clocked the vehicle at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. The vehicle was disabled by Coweta deputies on Interstate 85 and the two Atlanta residents in the vehicle were taken to the Fayette County Jail.

Shawntay S. Simmons, 26, was charged with financial identity fraud, fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, speeding and obedience to a traffic control device, according to Fayette County Jail records. Read More»

Busted tail light leads to Senoia burglary arrest

A 35-year-old Juliette man was arrested March 3 on charges stemming from a Dec. 23 burglary and a July 26 attempted burglary at the Senoia Drug Company on Ga. Highway 16.

Rico Ussery was charged with burglary and attempted burglary, according to Senoia Investigator Jason Ercole.

Arrests warrants for burglary and attempted burglary have also been issued for 22-year-old North Carolina resident Denzel Kewon Poole, though Poole has yet to be taken into custody, Ercole said. Read More»
