Line Creek Baptist to host Jubalheirs in concert Jan. 30

Line Creek Baptist Church will host The Jubalheirs in concert Friday, Jan. 30, at 4 and 7 p.m., at the church on Bob Smith Road in Sharpsburg.

Jubalheirs is a female chorus for ministers of music, organists, pianists and others who are involved in the music programs of Baptist Churches. The group sings under the direction of Jon Duncan, the specialist for music and worship ministries of the Georgia Baptist Convention. The varied program consists of hymns, spirituals and anthems. Enjoy costumes, choreography from height of Motown era

A celebration of Motown and soul music, “Masters of Soul,” is scheduled for the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts of Coweta County this month.

Some of the most iconic names in the history of popular music were discovered during the 1960’s in the Motor City of Detroit and their music became known as Motown and soul.

“Masters of Soul” is a celebration of those artists, their music and their style -- costumes from that era will be featured during the performance. The choreographed tribute to both male and female groups will backed up by a live band. Read More»

Refresh skills, review road rules in driving class

All ages welcome to AARP event

AARP is presenting a Drivers Safety Class at the Central Library on Literary Lane in Sharpsburg.

The class will be held on Jan. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Participants can refresh driving skills and review new rules of the road. The class is open to all ages.

Costs are $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers.

To register call 770-683-2052. Attendees should bring drivers’ license, AARP card if applicable, and a brown bag lunch.

Cameras aid Coweta's police efforts

New senior village proposed

Plans for a proposed senior village on 68 acres along Ga. Highway 34 and Fischer Road in east Coweta County will be heard Jan. 22 by the Coweta County Commission.

The rezoning proposal by Landsdown LLC on behalf of Baggarly Brothers Properties LLLP is requesting that the 68-acre site located along Hwy. 34 west of Fischer Road and extending north of the Sam’s Club on Fischer Road have the zoning changed from RC (rural conservation) and C-6(minor commercial shopping district) to RRCC (residential retirement community and care). NCAA welcomes new members

Jenny Jones is the Newnan-Coweta Art Association’s (NCAA) January Artist of the Month.

She is a native of Newnan who worked for Newnan Utilities for 26 years before retiring in 2009. She is a member of the art association and also a member of the Unity Baptist Church of Newnan.

Jones teaches art at her own Newnan gallery, Corner Arts Gallery & Studio, and also displays the work of about 30 local artists there. Read More»

“Gone With the Wind” expert and author Jennifer W. Dickey will speak in Newnan this month about the plywood set created as Tara for the movie and the struggle to create a Margaret Mitchell House in Atlanta.
