The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society will present “An Evening of Moonlight and Roses” – its 33rd annual Spring Tour of Homes – on Apr. 17, in Newnan, the “City of Homes”. The tour is from 4 to 8 p.m. and includes homes predominately in the College-Temple Historic District. RS Free File Program Makes Online Tax Filing Fast and Free for 70% of Taxpayers

Senoia amends water/sewer budgets

Increases in expenses related to the Senoia Water System led to the approval by the City Council Monday night of a transfer of $61,000 in reserves to amend the Water Fund budget. The council also approved a $22,800 amendment to the Sewer Fund.

Beyond the fluctuations that accompany any given line item of a budget, City Administrator Richard Ferry noted a number of variables that resulted in the recommendation to add $61,000 from the reserves to the water system’s Revenue Account. Read More»

Motorcyle benefit raised money for injured officer

Members of the Blaze-N-Blood Riders and the Blue Knights sponsored a motorcycle benefit fundraiser March 27 for Palmetto Police Sgt. Lee Gragg who was severely injured in the line of duty last year. 'Heart and Soul Tour' to visit Senoia, Apr. 14

The Senoia Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is seeking people to welcome participants in the Georgia Cities 2010 Heart and Tour to the city on Apr. 14. The tour bus will arrive on Seavy Street at the Redneck Gourmet at 10 a.m. and will depart an hour later.

DDA representatives will welcome the group of 45 and lead them on a tour of downtown to learn about the history, infill development and rehabilitated buildings in downtown historic Senoia.

'History with Elizabeth' at the Carnegie, Apr. 14 

Come to The Carnegie for an intimate discussion with local historian Elizabeth Beers to learn more about Newnan and its history. On Apr. 14 at 10 a.m. Ms. Elizabeth will be ‘Bragging on Newnan.’

Ethica purchases Newnan Nursing & Rehab Center

Newnan Hospital, Inc. announced Apr. 2 that the Newnan Hospital Nursing & Rehabilitation Center has been sold to Macon-based Ethica Health & Retirement Communities.

Newnan Hospital Inc. has operated the 143-bed nursing home, located at 244 Broad St. in Newnan, since purchasing it in 1994 when it was Beaulieu Convalescent Center. When Piedmont Healthcare bought Newnan Hospital in 2007, Newnan Hospital Inc. retained the nursing home because Piedmont did not operate nursing homes. Read More»

Car show in Newnan next Saturday

The Depot History Center at 60 East Broad Street in Newnan, will be the scene of an automobile exhibit: “Automobiles through the Decades.” The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society will present the exhibit on Saturday, Apr. 17 in conjunction with their Tour of Homes. The exhibit will be open from 2-8 p.m. and feature a vehicle from each decade, from a one horsepower buggy of the 19th century to a 400 horsepower automobile of the 21st century. Admission will be free.

If you’re looking for something different and fun to do this Saturday evening, Newnan Community Theatre Company is offering an evening of comedy for $5 per person. Their improvisational comedy troupe, the NITWITS will be performing skits on a variety of themes.  Audience participation is often part of the show. Give Mom a lobster dinner for Mother’s Day

For people looking for a different present for Mother’s Day this year, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newnan is offering a novel opportunity -— a full, lobster dinner.

Members of the church are taking orders for complete dinners to take home on the day before Mother’s special day. The only thing left to supply is the candlelight.

Since all of the lobsters will be flown in live from Maine, they will have to be ordered by May 1.
