Ethica purchases Newnan Nursing & Rehab Center

Newnan Hospital, Inc. announced Apr. 2 that the Newnan Hospital Nursing & Rehabilitation Center has been sold to Macon-based Ethica Health & Retirement Communities.

Newnan Hospital Inc. has operated the 143-bed nursing home, located at 244 Broad St. in Newnan, since purchasing it in 1994 when it was Beaulieu Convalescent Center. Car show in Newnan next Saturday

The Depot History Center at 60 East Broad Street in Newnan, will be the scene of an automobile exhibit: “Automobiles through the Decades.” The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society will present the exhibit on Saturday, Apr. 17 in conjunction with their Tour of Homes. The exhibit will be open from 2-8 p.m. and feature a vehicle from each decade, from a one horsepower buggy of the 19th century to a 400 horsepower automobile of the 21st century. Admission will be free.

If you’re looking for something different and fun to do this Saturday evening, Newnan Community Theatre Company is offering an evening of comedy for $5 per person. Their improvisational comedy troupe, the NITWITS will be performing skits on a variety of themes.  Audience participation is often part of the show. Give Mom a lobster dinner for Mother’s Day

For people looking for a different present for Mother’s Day this year, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newnan is offering a novel opportunity -— a full, lobster dinner.

Members of the church are taking orders for complete dinners to take home on the day before Mother’s special day. The only thing left to supply is the candlelight.

Since all of the lobsters will be flown in live from Maine, they will have to be ordered by May 1.

Jonathan and Allison (Bryant) Etress of Newnan announce the birth of their son, Luke Hamilton Etress, at 1:24 p.m. on Feb. 7, 2010, at Fayette Piedmont Hospital in Fayetteville. Luke weighed 8 lbs., 2 oz., and was 21.5 inches long. Grandparents are Pam Bryant of Fayetteville, Rod Bryant of Brooks and Jack and Darlene Etress of Stockbridge. Great-grandparents are Ed and Gerry Draughn of Union City.

Point-to-Point races provide a show of skill and love

The setting March 27 could not have been more perfect for the Bear Creek Hounds Point-to-Point Races held at Bear Creek Farm south of Moreland. A total of 83 horses ran in the multiple races held on the rolling terrain.

A centuries-old tradition came alive amid the rolling hills of Bear Creek Farm near Moreland recently. And in the second running of the Bear Creek Hounds Point-to-Point Races it is likely that a new tradition had emerged. Newnan offers reward in beating of 90 year-old woman

The Newnan City Council is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the September beating of a 90 year-old woman in her home on Pinson Street.

On September 21 the Newnan Police Department began an investigation into the assault of a 90 year old woman, said Public Information Officer Gina Snider. The woman, who lives alone, was assaulted in her home at 121 Pinson Street. She was found by friends on the morning of Sept. 21 who routinely check on her well being, Snider said. Read More»
