Construction underway on Fischer Crossing theater

What you are seeing is an aerial view of the current construction of the NCG Theaters on the east side of the Fischer Crossing commercial development at Ga. Highway 34 and Fischer Road. The 40,000 square-foot, 10-screen theater is expected to open around Thanksgiving.

The new NCG Theater at Fischer Crossing is out of the ground and construction is ongoing. Fischer Crossing developer Scott Seymour said the 10-screen theater is still looking to open around Thanksgiving.

With the grading, infrastructure and foundation work completed, crews last week began putting up the walls for the 40,000 square-foot theater located on the northeast portion of the intersection of Ga. Highway 34 and Fischer Road. Read More»

Coweta BoE holds millage steady for 7th year

Members of the Coweta County Board of Education Tuesday night voted to maintain the 18.59 millage rate again this year. The board also received a report on sales tax collections that decreased 6.8 percent in the past year. Read More»

Two public hearings on Fischer Crossing set for Sept.

The Sept. 16 public hearing before the Coweta County Commission pertaining to a rezoning and conditional use request for the east side of the Fischer Crossing commercial development in east Coweta will be joined by another that night that requests the abandonment of 1,100 feet of Wynn’s Pond Road as it approaches Fischer Road. The developer is requesting that the road be re-routed north and then west to connect to Fischer Road. Read More»

Newnan launches pedestrian safety campaign

The city of Newnan is starting a Pedestrian Safety public awareness campaign “Safe STEP." The city will begin conducting an ongoing campaign to remind drivers to look for pedestrians; and to encourage pedestrians to use crosswalks and follow the pedestrian signal indications. Read More»

Coweta schools look to extend accreditation

The Coweta County School System will soon initiate the process for its continued accreditation by SACS/CASI (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools/Council on Accreditation and School Improvement). Blackburn wins Coweta’s Dist. 3 commission seat

Once the votes were counted and the smoke cleared Tuesday night Bob Blackburn squeaked by David Stover to win the runoff for the District 3 seat on the Coweta County Commission. Blackburn won with just under 51 percent of the vote.

District 3 voters cast a total of 2,874 ballots in the northeast Coweta race. Blackburn came away with 1,460 votes compared to 1,414 taken by Stover, representing a win for Blackburn with 50.8 percent of the vote. A total of 14 provisional votes remain to be tallied but those ballots would not alter the outcome. Read More»

Cancer hospital to break ground before year's end

This will be the look of the new Cancer Treatment Centers of America hospital that will be located in the Ashley Park commercial development in Newnan. Groundbreaking for the facility is expected later this year.

It is now just a matter of time before the newest addition to Newnan’s Ashley Park commercial area will get underway. Representatives of the new Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) hospital told members of the Coweta County Development Authority recently that construction of the 200,000 square-foot facility should begin before the end of the year. Fischer Crossing looks to add soccer fields and more retail

Information released Aug. 3 by the Coweta County Commission noted that a public hearing will be held Sept. 16 pertaining to a request by the Fischer Crossing Development Group to rezone nearly 35 acres near the northeast corner of Fischer Road and Ga. Highway 34. The request would locate an additional 225,500 square feet of commercial space for Kohl’s and other retailers along with three community soccer fields immediately north of the previously approved Fischer Crossing retail development.
