Coweta Chamber to hold candidates forum

The Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce will host a candidates forum on Monday, Oct. 18 to give Coweta County citizens the chance to hear ideas from and pose questions to those running for local and national office.

The forum will be held at the Chamber’s offices in Newnan at 6 p.m. and will feature U.S. Representative District Three challenger Democrat Frank Saunders and incumbent Republican Lynn Westmoreland.  Read More»

Senoia DDA to hold D-1 BoE forum

Candidates for the Coweta County School Board will speak and take questions at a forum to held on Monday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Freeman-Sasser Building in Senoia. Each candidate will make a brief presentation about themselves and their platforms. The public will have the opportunity to submit questions, which will be chosen at random by the moderator and presented to the candidates. Read More»

A lesson in character

It was character education day Friday at the Coweta Charter Academy in Senoia. Kids went to each health, fitness or environmental display that combined its message with information on good character traits. The kids got another treat as representatives from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office showed off the Hawk 1 helicopter and K-9 units.

Commission amends definition of manufactured homes

It amounted to a bit of housekeeping last week when the Coweta County Commission amended the language pertaining to manufactured and mobile homes contained in the county’s Zoning and Development Ordinance.

Addressing the amendment, Planning Director Robert Tolleson told commissioners the change in language stemmed from the passage of Senate Bill 384.

The county’s ordinance already contained definitions of manufactured and mobile homes, Tolleson said. Read More»

Coweta gets grant to work with juvenile offenders

The Coweta County Commission last week agreed to accept a grant designed to provide counseling and psychological services to youthful offenders. The $7,500 grant was awarded by the Council of Juvenile Judges of Georgia. Read More»

CTK celebrates anniversary, welcomes new members

The Cathedral of Christ the King in Sharpsburg celebrated the church’s 14th anniversary by confirming or receiving several new members.

The church began in a living room with 19 people in 1996 and relocated to the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City for six years.

The congregation then occupied its new sanctuary and a fellowship hall and classroom were later added at the location on Ga. Highway 34 in Coweta County.

Mrs. Wanda Burgess, 74, of Senoia

Mrs. Wanda Burgess, 74, of Senoia, died October 8, 2010.

She was born May 8, 1936 in Morgan County, Kentucky, the youngest daughter of ten children. Her love for children was exhibited by her thirty years of service as a nationally certified preschool teacher. Most recently, she also an AWANA leader and Vacation Bible School volunteer at Woolsey Baptist Church. Read More»
