Senoia approves variance for elderly facility

The Senoia City Council at its April 18 meeting approved a variance for roadway improvements for the Tranquil Village elderly care facility project on Coweta Street. ‘The Wall That Heals’ fundraiser April 23

A motorcycle benefit ride on April 23 will raise money to bring “The Wall That Heals,” a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, to the Coweta County Fairgrounds in October.

The April 23 event will begin at the Great South Harley Davidson dealership located at 185 Ga. Highway 16 East in Newnan. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Riders will depart at 10 a.m. for the U.S. Army National Infantry Museum in Columbus. Read More»

Sharpsburg man guilty of tax evasion

A Sharpsburg man will be sentenced on May 9 in U.S. District Court after entering a guilty plea on two counts of tax evasion and two counts of failing to file tax returns.

Robert C. Boot, 59, was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 14, 2010, on two counts of tax evasion and two counts of failure to file tax returns, according to U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates. And on Dec. 8 Boot entered a guilty plea to two counts of failure to file, Yates said, adding that in his plea agreement Boot admitted that he owed $75,196.25 in taxes for tax years 2002-2004.  Read More»

The grand opening of the new NCG Cinemas at Fischer Crossings is set for this Friday, April 22.

The new NCG Cinemas is located one mile west of Peachtree City off Ga. Highway 54.

Newnan man arrested for child molestation

A 22 year-old Newnan man was arrested April 8 on multiple charges relating to the molestation of a six year-old Newnan boy.

Brandon Michael Murphy of Berry Avenue was charged with aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation, kidnapping and enticing a minor for indecent purposes, according to Newnan Police Department records. Read More»

Kohl’s site work at Fischer Crossings to begin in May

It will not be long now for work on the new Kohl’s department store at Fischer Crossings to get underway. The initial activity on the site across from the Sam’s Club on Fischer Road and Ga. Highway 34 in east Coweta County is expected to begin on May 1.

Fischer Crossings developer Scott Seymour on April 13 said the project will begin moving dirt on May 1, with initial construction activities expected to begin in mid-June or July. The store is expected to open next spring, Seymour said. Read More»
