Nearly an inch of snow fell across Coweta County Wednesday night but this time it could not stop East Coweta Middle School and the other schools across the county from holding classes on Thursday.

Charter Schools USA receives SACS accreditation

Nearly two dozen schools in Georgia and Florida operated by Charter Schools USA (CSUSA) have received accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS/CASI). A first for an education management company, Charter Schools USA operates the Coweta Charter Academy at Senoia that opened in 2010.

The AdvancED Accreditation Commission last week approved corporate accreditation for Fort Lauderdale-based Charter Schools USA (CSUSA). AdvancED is the national commission that confers SACS/CASI accreditation. Read More»

Coweta Commission to hear Hwy. 34 commercial request Feb. 15

The Coweta County Commission will hear a proposal on Feb. 15 that developers hope will result in the rezoning of nearly 30 acres for a commercial development along the north side of Ga. Highway 34 at Hollz Parkway a short distance to the east of Walt Sanders Memorial Drive. The request includes the establishment of a new car dealer on the site.

The proposal by JHP Family Investments, LLC for Jackson Place, will be presented at the Feb. 15 public hearing in the commission chambers. Read More»

‘Art of Green’ coming to Senoia March 26

The city of Senoia will celebrate "Art of Green" on Saturday, March 26th with a sidewalk art show. The third annual "Art of Green" is sponsored by the Cultural Arts Committee of the Senoia Downtown Development Authority. Coweta BoE adopts board eligibility policy

The Coweta County Board of Education at its Tuesday meeting unanimously adopted a state-required policy pertaining to individuals eligible to serve on the board or as superintendent.

Described as pertaining to the election of county school board members and persons eligible to serve the school system, the policy reflects the provisions of state law O.C.G.A. 20-02-0051. Read More»

Schools provide needy kids with no-fee breakfasts and lunches during the five-day school week, but what happens to the kids on the other two days during the weekends?

Members at the Vineyard Community Church near Senoia are stepping up to fill that gap. They intend to provide those same children with meals during the weekends.

The new initiative, “Backpack Buddies,” has targeted two of Coweta’s elementary schools with hopes of expanding the effort across Coweta County and the region for income-eligible children. Read More»

Valentine social set for Friday

The United Methodist Men of Cornerstone United Methodist Church on Ga. Highway 154 at Thomas Crossroads in Newnan will host a “Heart & Soul” Valentine social Friday, Feb. 11, from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. The event will feature the Live Big Band music of The Peachtree Jazz Edition with vocalist Toni Byrd.

Proceeds from the social will go to the Boy Scout program and Cornerstone UMC repair projects. Read More»

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hines of Dahlonega and Mr. and Mrs. Winfred Hanie of Phenix City, Ala. She is a 2003 graduate of Starr’s Mill High School and a 2007 graduate of Auburn University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
