Jana Gossett engaged to Tyler York

Bruce and Jan Gossett of Peachtree City announce the engagement of their daughter, Jana Gossett, to Tyler York, son of David and Wanda York of Senoia.

The wedding will be March 19, 2011, at The Cathedral of Christ the King in Sharpsburg.

Following a honeymoon in Berlin, Germany and Prague, Czech Republic, the couple will reside in Newnan.

Watts - birth

John and Tammi (Larson) Watts of Newnan announce the birth of their daughter, Kylie Watts, on Dec. 22, 2010, at Piedmont-Fayette Hospital. Kylie weighed 6 lbs., 11 oz. and was 19 inches long. Grandparents are Bob and Nancy Larson of Stevens Point, Wis., Becky Watts of Tempe, Ariz., and John and Robin Watts of Springfield, Mo. Kylie was welcomed home by her step brothers, Tim, age 18 and Brandon, age 13.

The day finally came. The Sam’s Club at Fischer Crossings held it’s ribbon cutting at 8 a.m. Thursday and opened its doors to shoppers at 8:30 a.m. The retailer is the first to open at the expansive Fischer Crossings retail development permitted for nearly 800,000 square feet of commercial space. Coweta to make up 1 of 5 missed ice days, 5 minutes at a time

The week-long closure of Coweta County schools and nearly all others in north Georgia two weeks ago due to the Winter Storm of 2011 meant that school systems needed to decide how many days to make up and how to do it. With four storm days built in to the 180-day school cycle, the Coweta County School System decided to make up the fifth day by adding five minutes to school days beginning Jan. 31. Read More»

Randy Houser delights crowds at Sam's club opening

Country music artist Randy Houser was a one-man show Thursday morning for the opening of the Sam’s Club at Fischer Crossings. Houser opened the ribbon-cutting ceremony by singing the national anthem and later sang a number of selections for fans. Employees at the new 136,000 square-foot Sam's Club, the company's largest store in the Southeast, were met by long lines of customers when the doors opened for the first time at 8:30 a.m. Sam's Club is the first retailer to open at the Fischer Crossings retail development located at Ga. Highway 34 and Fischer Road in east Coweta County.

Commission approves medical office rezoning

It was a matter of a change in zoning to accommodate a change of usage. The Coweta County Commission Jan. 18 unanimously approved a request by Delta Healthcare Management Corp. to rezone 3.62 acres on Macedonia Road to Office-Institutional (O-I) for use as a home healthcare office. The property had been zoned Rural Conservation (RC) when approved in 2005 for a daycare center. Read More»

Planting variance request near Thomas Crossroads approved

The Coweta County Commission at the Jan. 18 meeting approved a perimeter planting variance request for Lot 1 of the Thomas Grace Annex commercial development off Andrew Bailey Road near Ga. Highway 34 east of Thomas Crossroads.

County Zoning Administrator Angela White in addressing the request said the property lines when initially submitted for review were located such that the existing perimeter planting area and dumpster area were included as required by ordinance. Read More»

Public policy educator to discuss civility at the Carnegie

Dr. Susan Herbst, newly appointed President of the University of Connecticut and currently Professor of the School of Public Policy at Georgia Tech and Executive Vice-Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer of the University System of Georgia will discuss her recent book, “Rude Democracy: Civility and Incivility in American Politics” at Newnan’s Carnegie Library on Jan. 31. Southeast’s largest Sam’s Club set to open 8:30 a.m. Thursday, with ribbon-cutting at 8 a.m.

When the state’s newest Sam’s Club opens Thursday morning a mile west of Peachtree City, shoppers will see a line-up of celebrities that include country music artist Randy Houser, fitness expert Denise Austin, Atlanta Falcons linebacker Curtis Lofton and, on Friday, chef and restauranteur Wolfgang Puck.
