Rose Marie Godfrey engaged to Kevin Paul Baker

Mr. and Mrs. Rick Godfrey of Sharpsburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Rose Marie Godfrey, to Kevin Paul Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Baker of Macon.

The bride-to-be is a member of Fayette County Special Olympics where she regularly competes in bowling, softball, volleyball, and table tennis.

The groom-elect is a member of the Macon Special Olympics where he regularly competes in bowling, softball, hockey, and photography. He is also a member of the Shutterbug Camera Club. Several of his photographs have won awards at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Macon. Read More»

Tea party meeting and bus trip later today

The South Atlanta Tea Party Patriots will be holding a meeting tonight, March 15, featuring gubernatorial candidate Ray McBerry who will be speaking on States’ Rights. The meeting will be held at 800 Commerce Drive in Peachtree City at 7 p.m.

On another issue, the organization is issuing a last call for a bus trip from Atlanta to Washington, D.C. At last count there were 12 seat available. The bus will leave from Atlanta at 7 p.m. and arrive in Washington Tuesday morning for the “Say NO to Obamacare” rally at the Capitol. Read More»

Cap & Trade meeting coming March 30

Because of the large number of requests received, the Fayette-Coweta 9/12 Patriots and the Coweta Tea Party Patriots will hold a repeat of the January Cap & Trade meeting on Tuesday, March 30 from 2-3:30 p.m. at The Gathering Place, located at 203 McIntosh Trail in Peachtree City.

Speakers will include Georgia Congressman Matt Ramsey and Michael Whiteside, President of Green Power EMC & retired CEO of Coweta-Fayette EMC.

Spokesman Jim Richter said attendees will learn about the proposed cap and trade legislation currently before Congress and how citizens will be affected. Read More»

The Newnan Youth Council (NYC) recently got a taste of Georgia state politics during their visit to the State Capitol. The Youth Council had the chance to visit with Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue and also Lt Governor Casey Cagle. The youth were invited to have lunch with State Representative Lynn Smith, State Representative Billy Horne and State Senator Mitch Seabaugh during their field trip to the Capitol.

Seabaugh bill calls for Superior Court reductions

Senate Majority Whip Mitch Seabaugh (R-Sharpsburg) introduced legislation March 10 that would reduce the number of Superior Court judges in an effort to find budget savings. Currently Georgia has 205 Superior Court judges. Seabaugh’s bill would reduce that number to 186. The criteria for the judicial circuit reductions would be based on current case loads.

The Coweta Judicial Circuit includes Coweta, Carroll, Troup, Heard and Meriwether counties. The circuit and its six Superior Court judges would not be affected, however, since those judges average 3,248 cases per year. Read More»
