Fairburn considers regional baseball complex

The Fairburn City Council Monday night adopted a resolution for a proposal that, if approved by the board in the coming weeks, will lead to the development of a sports complex expected to draw baseball and softball teams and tournaments from across metro Atlanta with a resulting initial annual economic impact of $3.5-4.5 million. Coweta approves intersection work at Lower F’ville and Hwy. 154

Much needed improvements are coming to the intersection of Lower Fayetteville Road and Ga. Highway 154. The Coweta County Commission last week unanimously approved a bid of nearly $700,000 for work that will install a new traffic signal and turns lanes at the intersection.

Commissioners reviewed eight bids received for the project, awarding the contract to low bidder Matriarch Construction Company, Inc. for $697,889.

The project will include the installation of dedicated turn lanes on all sides of the intersection and a replacement for the traffic signal currently in use. Read More»

Palmetto officer nominated as TV show All-Star

Palmetto Police Sgt. Lee Gragg has been nominated for the America’s Most Wanted television show’s “All-Star” designation. A benefit motorcycle ride for the injured officer will be held Saturday.

Sgt. Gragg was seriously injured on Sept. 12 during a routine traffic stop in Palmetto that led to the loss of his left eye, a brain injury, a broken back and 17 broken bones in his face and his jaw broken in four places. Sen. Chance to sit on board examining state tax system

Senate Finance Chairman Ronnie Chance (R-Tyrone) would be appointed to a special committee examining Georgia's tax laws under legislation announced today by Georgia's House and Senate leaders.

The panel, called the Special Council on Tax Reform and Fairness for Georgians, would be charged with "weeding through Georgia's cumbersome tax system to bring balance, transparency and fairness to Georgia taxpayers," according to a Senate news release about House Bill 1405. Read More»

The Newnan Youth Council (NYC) recently got a taste of Georgia state politics during their visit to the State Capitol. The Youth Council had the chance to visit with Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue and also Lt Governor Casey Cagle. The youth were invited to have lunch with State Representative Lynn Smith, State Representative Billy Horne and State Senator Mitch Seabaugh during their field trip to the Capitol. Read More»

Local indie recording artists Legal Eyed Drive will be holding a CD release party for their self-titled debut album at 8 p.m. tomorrow (March 19) at The Alamo in Newnan, Ga.

The band has been playing a limited schedule of selected venues to prepare for the recording of their first release. They have frequently played at local establishments in and around the Atlanta area. Office building dedicated

Office building dedicated

Friends and family gathered together last Saturday to officially dedicate Senoia’s newest office building. The historic-looking building was christened the Addy Building after longtime Senoia businessman Ellis Crook’s mother, Leola Mae Addy. Greg Crook, who now manages his father’s businesses, said the honor was fitting for a woman who did not have many material possessions, but dearly loved her family. The office building is located on Ga. Highway 16, next to Crook’s Tire Pro, and currently houses the office of Crescent South Insurance. Read More»
