New LLMs installed at CTK

Several licensed liturgical ministers, also known as lay eucharistic ministers, were installed at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Sharpsburg. The ministers received training by Father Dan Hale, Peachtree City, canon liturgist in the Mid-South Diocese, and will operate locally under the direction of Deacon James Gardner, Tyrone. The new LLMs will take Holy Communion to the sick and shut-in, will assist as chalice bearers, and will serve in other duties as assigned.The installation was conducted by David Epps, bishop of the Diocese. Newnan offers reward in beating of elderly woman

The Newnan Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding the person or persons responsible for the beating of an elderly woman.  The Newnan City Council is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.

On September 21, 2009 the Newnan Police Department began an investigation into the assault of a 90 year old woman. The woman, who lives alone, was assaulted in her home at 121 Pinson Street. She was found by friends on the morning of Sept. 21 who routinely check on her well being. Read More»

Senate to school systems: absorb employee furlough days

The Georgia Senate late Friday passed a bill that prevents school systems with more than six percent of their operations budget in a reserve funds account from imposing additional furlough days on school system employees prior to June 30. But for schools systems like Fayette County the law, if enacted, may not apply since the Fayette School System does not maintain an officially designated reserve account. Read More»

Tea Party meeting scheduled for April 1

The South Atlanta Tea Party will hold a meeting April 1 and will feature speakers discussing the reform of the political system and the use of technology to influence the political system.

Georgia Tea Party Patriots Coordinator Debbie Cooley will speak on reforming the political system from the inside out. She will be joined by National Tea Party Patriots Coordinator Joy McGraw who will talk about technology uses that can influence the political system.

Entries sought in Senoia photography competition

It is all about life’s simple pleasures. A call for entries has been posted for the juried photography competition “Simple Pleasures” that will be hosted by the Veranda Historic Bed & Breakfast Inn and Gallery in Senoia.

Both professional and amateur photographers 18 and over are invited to compete in three categories: Life in Senoia, Life in Georgia and Life in The World at-large. 

Deadline for receipt of entry form, fees and CD with images no larger than 2 MB each is Saturday, May 1. Black and white, sepia, color and manipulated images may be entered in any category. Read More»

Coweta Commission approves doggie day camp in Sharpsburg

East Coweta residents needing a place board their dog will soon have the option of a doggie day camp. Coweta County commissioners last week approved a dog boarding and day camp to be located on a small portion of a 55-acre property on Christopher Road. Read More»

Fairburn considers regional baseball complex

The Fairburn City Council Monday night adopted a resolution for a proposal that, if approved by the board in the coming weeks, will lead to the development of a sports complex expected to draw baseball and softball teams and tournaments from across metro Atlanta with a resulting initial annual economic impact of $3.5-4.5 million. Coweta approves intersection work at Lower F’ville and Hwy. 154

Much needed improvements are coming to the intersection of Lower Fayetteville Road and Ga. Highway 154. The Coweta County Commission last week unanimously approved a bid of nearly $700,000 for work that will install a new traffic signal and turns lanes at the intersection.

Commissioners reviewed eight bids received for the project, awarding the contract to low bidder Matriarch Construction Company, Inc. for $697,889.

The project will include the installation of dedicated turn lanes on all sides of the intersection and a replacement for the traffic signal currently in use. Read More»

Palmetto officer nominated as TV show All-Star

Palmetto Police Sgt. Lee Gragg has been nominated for the America’s Most Wanted television show’s “All-Star” designation. A benefit motorcycle ride for the injured officer will be held Saturday.

Sgt. Gragg was seriously injured on Sept. 12 during a routine traffic stop in Palmetto that led to the loss of his left eye, a brain injury, a broken back and 17 broken bones in his face and his jaw broken in four places. Gragg is still recovering from his injuries and is back at work part-time. Read More»
