Senoia Farmers Market open Aug. 13

The Senoia Farmers Market will place on Saturday, August 13th, in the parking lot next to City Hall on Main Street in downtown Senoia.  The Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon. A variety of locally grown produce, homemade canned goods, and specialty items will be available. Newnan theatre presents a magical muggle murder mystery

On August 13 at 7 p.m., a new headmaster is being announced at the world's most famous school of witchcraft and wizardry, and all alumni and special guests are invited to attend a celebration in the Great Hall. Be sure to wear your dress robes. All your favorite characters will be in attendance, even a few you wish were not. Unemployment climbs again in Coweta, Newnan

The recession that supposedly ended didn’t end, at least in terms of job availability. Unemployment in Coweta County jumped to 9.7 percent in June, to 10.9 percent in Newnan and to 11.6 percent in the Three Rivers area.

Coweta’s jobless rate hit 9.7 percent in June, up from 8.8 percent in May. The June figure shows 5,831 people out of work in a workforce of 59,948. The unemployment rate a year ago was also 9.7 percent. Read More»

New cancer hospital breaks ground at Newnan’s Ashley Park

It was a groundbreaking like no other. More than 500 people made their way to the Ashley Park retail area in Newnan Aug. 3 for the long-awaited groundbreaking of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America hospital. Friends of Brown's Mill Battlefield hold successful event

There was no mistaking the thundering of cannons July 30 at the Coweta County Fairgrounds as Civil War re-enactors put on a display for more than 250 people attending a barbecue fund-raiser sponsored by the Brown’s Mill Battlefield Association. Somewhere in all the smoke are Coweta County Commissioner Bob Blackburn and Rep. Lynn Smith, tasked with firing the vintage weapons. Photo/Ben Nelms.

The Friends of Brown's Mill Battlefield Association held a barbecue to introduce folks who were not familiar with the group to its work and to thank those who have already pledged funds and manpower. The actual battle was fought on the same date, July 30, in 1864.

President Carolyn Turner along with Commissioner Bob Blackburn welcomed the several hundred who came to the Coweta County Fairgrounds. There were Musketeers, re-enactors, and several cannon camps to delight all ages. Read More»

Business goes proactive after copper theft

Copper thefts are not uncommon anywhere these days. But the weekend theft of copper-laden cooling components at Score Indoor Sports off Ga. Highway 74 in Fairburn came with a word of advice from the company that might help prevent similar thefts at other businesses.

The theft occurred between 6:30 p.m. on July 31 and 8 a.m. the following day, said Score Indoor General Manager Ian Vanderkley. Landscapers arriving at the site on Oakley Industrial Boulevard Monday morning found that some of the piping and cooling coils from the large cooling units had been removed. Read More»

‘The Wall That Heals’ preview meeting Aug. 9

The Coweta TEA Party Patriots at the organization’s Aug. 9 meeting at the Carnegie in downtown Newnan will preview the October arrival of a replica of “The Wall That Heals” that will be on display at the Coweta County fairgrounds in October. Coweta TEA Party spokesman Lee Norman said the meeting will be for all interested citizens and all veterans, with special emphasis towards Vietnam veterans. Read More»

Piedmont Newnan gives $10K to Coweta schools

Piedmont Newnan Hospital Hospital has renewed its sponsorship of the Coweta County School System for the 2011-12 school year. This sponsorship, totaling $10,000, includes a number of direct contributions to all 29 Coweta County elementary, middle and high schools for programs covering student health and wellness, academic, athletic and artistic programs.

Cargill donates for water conservation workshops

As part of its longstanding commitment to support the communities in which it does business, Cargill has donated $6,000 to the Coweta County 4H Council to provide funding for water conservation workshops for elementary through high school educators. CCDA approves revenue bonds for cancer hospital

The Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) hospital that broke ground in Newnan Aug. 3 is getting a helping hand from the Coweta County Development Authority (CCDA) in the form of industrial revenue bonds to help with the construction of the hospital facility at Ashley Park. The resolution offers CTCA a way to obtain a more competitive interest rate and includes no liability to CCDA or Coweta County. Read More»
