Blalock Lakes receives downsizing approval

The large Blalock Lakes residential development approved in 2005 and situated southwest of Newnan got a bit of downsizing Jan. 15 by the Coweta County Commission. Owner Cousins Properties requested that a 131-acre portion of the nearly 3,000-acre property be removed from the development.

Piedmont Newnan seeks help for ER wait times

The new Piedmont Newnan Hospital on Poplar Road has been open less than a year, but it is already experiencing wait times that have led to a new medical screening exam in the emergency room to more effectively serve patients with more severe conditions.

“Emergency rooms across the country have seen a continual increase in the number of patients who visit for primary care needs, and Piedmont Newnan is among them,” said hospital president and CEO Michael Bass. “As a result, patients are experiencing longer wait times.” Read More»

6 qualify for Dist. 71 House seat

There will be no shortage of candidates in the Feb. 5 special election to fill the District 71 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives. Qualifying time ended Wednesday with five Republicans and one Democrat vying for the House seat vacated by Robert Stokely prior to his taking office. Run-walk event in Senoia aimed at epilepsy

A 5K race and 1 mile walk will be held in Senoia Feb. 2 to help raise funds for epilepsy research.

The Cupid Chase is chaired by local resident Mikki Lewis, whose daughter Hadley was diagnosed with epilepsy after her first grand mal seizure while in kindergarten in 2008. Since then, Hadley was diagnosed with other related problems including dyslexia, delayed fine motor skills and other issues. Read More»

Senoia holds firm on development fees

The agenda for the year’s first meeting of the Senoia City Council held Jan. 7 was relatively light. But considering that the city has not seen staggering effects from the ongoing recession, the vote to maintain the variety of fees charged for development could be beneficial for any new business prospects.

As for keeping the fee schedule as it was last year, City Manager Richard Ferry said the city saw no need to re-examine the fee structure. Read More»

Senoia sets qualifying fees for mayor, council

The political landscape in Senoia could be up for a change later this year. The City Council on Jan. 7 announced qualifying fees for mayor and the two council seats up for election in November.

Mayor Robert Belisle’s term will expire at the end of the year, as will those of Councilman Jeff Fisher and Councilman Larry Owens. Senoia uses the at-large method of electing council members.

The qualifying fee for mayor is $360 while the qualifying fee for council positions is $90.

Search ongoing for missing Zebulon man

Family members of a 70-year-old Zebulon man are asking for help in locating their father who has not been seen heard from since Dec. 22.

Daughter Cindy Pollette said she last heard from her father, Philip E. Chiges, on Dec. 22 when she spoke with him by phone.

“We talk regularly, twice a day every day,” Pollette said. “He’s never been one to disappear. I just can’t see him staying gone.” Read More»
