Senoia school gets charter extension

It was an announcement that parents of school children at the Coweta Charter Academy (CCA) at Senoia have been waiting for. The school last week received a five-year renewal of its charter and is expected to soon begin construction work that will expand the school on Ga. Highway 16 on Senoia’s west side.

Ga. Charter Educational Foundation (GCEF) board member Lyn Michaels-Carden said the CCA received a five-year charter renewal last week from the Ga. State Board of Education. The renewal is effective beginning with the 2013-2014 school year, Michaels-Carden said. Read More»

Senoia qualifying dates set

It was an otherwise short agenda item approved with little fanfare at Monday night’s meeting of the Senoia City Council. But the approval of the qualifying dates for municipal elections later this year could result in increased interest since Mayor Robert Belisle has announced he will not seek reelection.

Belisle’s term will expire at the end of the year, as will those of Councilman Jeff Fisher and Councilman Larry Owens. Senoia uses the at-large method of electing council members. Read More»

Memorial paraments dedicated at Christ the King

New paraments were presented to the congregation of Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg, by Virginia Fretwell, Peachtree City, and were dedicated during morning services on The Feast of the Epiphany.

The new paraments, which include an altar hanging, two lectern hangings, a veil, and a burse, are primarily green and will be displayed during the seasons of Epiphany and Kingdomtide, also known as Ordinary Time.

David and Adriane Cagle of Sharpsburg announce the birth of their daughter, Cambria Lynn. She was born on December 7, 2012 at 7:37 p.m. at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. Cambria weighed 6 lbs., 8 oz. and was 19 inches long.

Proud grandparents are Thomas & June Atkinson of Peachtree City and Bruce & Yon Cagle of Fayetteville. Great grandmother is Evelyn Cagle of Sandy Springs.

Jones receives rare certification from GEMA

Coweta County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Jay Jones has received a certification that few possess. Jones recently completed a wealth of required work that has landed him the Georgia Professional Emergency Manager certification. The certification was presented to Jones by Ga. Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) Chief of Operations Charlie Dawson at the Jan. 15 meeting of the Coweta County Commission. Read More»

Blalock Lakes receives downsizing approval

The large Blalock Lakes residential development approved in 2005 and situated southwest of Newnan got a bit of downsizing Jan. 15 by the Coweta County Commission. Owner Cousins Properties requested that a 131-acre portion of the nearly 3,000-acre property be removed from the development.

Though the property has not been developed, county zoning administrator Angela White said the large residential development was approved by the commission in 2005. Read More»

Piedmont Newnan seeks help for ER wait times

The new Piedmont Newnan Hospital on Poplar Road has been open less than a year, but it is already experiencing wait times that have led to a new medical screening exam in the emergency room to more effectively serve patients with more severe conditions.

“Emergency rooms across the country have seen a continual increase in the number of patients who visit for primary care needs, and Piedmont Newnan is among them,” said hospital president and CEO Michael Bass. “As a result, patients are experiencing longer wait times.” Read More»

6 qualify for Dist. 71 House seat

There will be no shortage of candidates in the Feb. 5 special election to fill the District 71 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives. Qualifying time ended Wednesday with five Republicans and one Democrat vying for the House seat vacated by Robert Stokely prior to his taking office.
