Faith Lutheran’s summer soccer camp starts Monday

Faith Lutheran Church in Sharpsburg will start its summer soccer camp program next Monday, June 18, and will continue through Thursday, June 21. The program is for children rising to kindergarten through children children rising to sixth grade. The registration fee is $50.

Patrick F. Ciandella, 89, of Sharpsburg

Patrick F. Ciandella

Patrick F. Ciandella, 89, died peacefully at his home in Sharpsburg, Ga., with his loving wife of 60 years at his side, on May 22, 2012.

He was born in Jersey City, N.J., on June 21, 1923.

After Pearl Harbor, he volunteered for the Army Air Corp. During the war, he "Flew the Hump" from bases in India and Burma to deliver supplies to Chinese troops fighting the Japanese in China. He was awarded an Air Medal and two Distinguished Flying Crosses for his service. Following the war, he worked for a number of civil aviation firms and lived for three years in Cairo, Egypt. Faith Lutheran’s summer soccer camp starts June 18 in Coweta

Faith Lutheran Church in Sharpsburg will host a four-day summer soccer camp this month and and is still taking registrations.

The program will be June 18 - 21 and is intended for children rising to kindergarten through children rising to sixth grade. The registration fee is $50.

Abby Thompson of Newnan (left in photo), and Denise Landon of Tyrone, both 2012 graduates, were honored in services recently at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Sharpsburg. Thompson, the daughter of Richard and Christi Thompson, graduated with honors from East Coweta High School and will attend Georgia State University. Landon, the daughter of Army Chaplain (Major) Jonathan and Rebeka Landon, graduated from the Dental Assistant Program at West Georgia Technical College. Read More»

Local chapter of Order of St. Luke members meet with OSL president and region director

Members of the Jehovah Rapha Chapter of the International Order of St. Luke the Physician, based at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Sharpsburg, recently met with The Rev. John Rice, the Current OSL president and Region 3 director at Green Ginger Restaurant in Peachtree City.

Rice, who retired from the Episcopal Church prior to assuming full-time duties with OSL, shared his vision of OSL with the members of the chapter. Read More»

The program will be from June 18 -21 and is for children rising to kindergarten through children rising to sixth grade. The registration fee is $50.

Experienced soccer players and coaches will teach a variety of soccer techniques to include dribbling, passing, shooting, heading and conditioning. Read More»

Russian group to perform

Lyra, a vocal ensemble from St. Petersburg, Russia, will present a concert at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church on April 26 at 7 p.m. The five singers will perform Russian sacred music and folk songs. They will sing 30 concerts in seven states this spring. They also concertize throughout Western Europe and Scandinavia. There is no admission charge, but an offering will be collected to defray the group’s expenses.

Car show at Willis Road Elementary tomorrow

Willis Road Elementary School in Sharpsburg will hold it's Inaugural Cruisin' Thru the CRCTs Car Show tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m. at the school (430 Willis Road).
 
All cars entered will receive a Dash Plaque and two prizes will be awards, Kids' Choice and Principal's Choice.
