Last month, Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg experienced its first youth-led service in the church’s 15-year history. The preacher of the day was Rhianna Benson, a 14-year-old home schooled freshman.

Several months prior, a number of youth approached Christ the King, with the idea and he readily approved.

The “Blessing of the Bikes” occurred recently at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Sharpsburg. The Rev. Canon Dan Hale, interim vicar at Hogansville’s St. Matthew CEC, prayed over and administered holy water to each motorcycle. Afterwards, ten people left the church for a ride. Hale also serves as priest-in-residence at Christ the King, is canon liturgist for the Diocese of the Mid-South, and serves as a member of the Bishop’s Council. He resides in Peachtree City. The Joseph Sams School (www.josephsamsschool.org ), a private, non-profit organization serving special needs students in Fayetteville, was visited by over 40 sixth- graders from Sharpsburg-based Trinity Christian School (www.tcslions.org) on September 27th as part of that school’s community service project. During their visit to the school, the sixth graders observed and interacted with Sams School students, and then separated into groups to provide specific services to the Sams School. Read More»

Robert Franklin Cauthen, 77, passed away on Oct. 9, 2011. 

He was a member of the U.S. Army and went to work for J.C. Penney's, where he later retired.

He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Cauthen of 54 years; daughters, Patti Howell and husband, Ervin of Sharpsburg, Ga.;  Cindy Brackett and husband, Daniel of Stockbridge, Ga.; 4 grandchildren; Courtney Grega, Carter Brackett, Caitlin Brackett and Michael Howell; brother, Hugh Cauthen of Gainesville, Ga., and several nieces and nephews.  Read More»
