Memorial paraments dedicated at Christ the King

New paraments were presented to the congregation of Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg, by Virginia Fretwell, Peachtree City, and were dedicated during morning services on The Feast of the Epiphany.

The new paraments, which include an altar hanging, two lectern hangings, a veil, and a burse, are primarily green and will be displayed during the seasons of Epiphany and Kingdomtide, also known as Ordinary Time.

The gift was in memory of Marvin “Bud” Fretwell, Mrs. Fretwell’s late husband. Read More»

David and Adriane Cagle of Sharpsburg announce the birth of their daughter, Cambria Lynn. She was born on December 7, 2012 at 7:37 p.m. at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. Cambria weighed 6 lbs., 8 oz. and was 19 inches long.

Proud grandparents are Thomas & June Atkinson of Peachtree City and Bruce & Yon Cagle of Fayetteville. Great grandmother is Evelyn Cagle of Sandy Springs.

James Reid Thomas, 62 of Sharpsburg

James Reid "Jimmy" Thomas, 62 of Sharpsburg (formerly of Peachtree City) was born on May 22, 1950 in Atlanta. Jimmy was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and of Georgia Tech in 1972. He enjoyed fishing and had a love/hate relationship with golf. He loved to "piddle" in his workshop and around the house and enjoyed being outdoors and feeding and caring for his backyard birds. His greatest joy was in being with his family and friends. Yearly trips to the beach with his extended family and trips to Gatlinburg with his wife, Robin, were his favorite getaways. Read More»

Metzger will serve as ‘Boy Bishop’ this Sunday at CTK

Thomas Metzger, 15, of Peachtree City, will serve as “St. Nicholas Bishop,” also known as “Boy Bishop,” at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Sharpsburg during both the 8:30 and the 10 a.m. services on Sunday, Dec. 9. Bishop David Epps, who serves as the pastor of Christ the King and as the bishop of the Diocese of the Mid-South appointed Metzger. Epps will vacate the bishop’s chair to the “boy bishop.” Metzger will preach the sermon in both services and will be attired in the garments of the bishop. Read More»

Word to Life Ministries’ ‘The Joy of Christmas’ presented at Line Creek

Word to Life Ministries will present “The Joy of Christmas” Saturday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. at Line Creek Baptist Church, 1488 Bob Smith Rd., Sharpsburg.The production was created, written and produced by members of Word to Life Ministries. It is a contemporary drama, spiced with just enough comedy for the whole family to enjoy.There is no charge and the public is invited.

An encore will be presented during the Sunday morning service Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. Seating is limited.

In celebration of Christ the King Sunday, Nov. 25, the last Sunday of the church year’s cycle, “one50,” the high school worship band at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, will lead the 10:50 service in the Fellowship Hall. Mary Ellis, age 74, of Sharpsburg, GA passed away November 7, 2012. Mrs. Ellis grew up in Lansing, MI where she met and married her husband of 47 years, Clarence (Bud) Ellis. A loving wife and mother of 3, Mrs. Ellis went on to become a Real Estate agent after moving to Georgia in 1986. Loved by all who knew her, she was once active in New Neighbors and the Red Hat Society. She was also a member of American Legion Women's Auxiliary Post 50.
