Cokes Chapel UMC launches Cokes Kids for Christ services

Coweta hardware store to become furniture/appliance shop

The old Ace Hardware store on Ga. Highway 154 just north of Thomas Crossroads was approved Jan. 23 for a rezoning that will bring a furniture and appliance business to the location.

The unanimous vote by commissioners amended a condition of the C-6 (Commercial Minor Shopping Zoning District) zoning that allowed the site in 2004 to be used as a hardware store.

Applicant Jack Shepard requested that one of the conditions of the zoning be amended to permit the old hardware store to be converted to a business that sells furniture and appliances. Read More»

Marc Steven Dreyer, 59, of Sharpsburg

Marc Steven Dreyer, 59, of Sharpsburg, Ga. died in his sleep on Dec. 15, 2013.

After graduating from North Eastern University, Marc was employed by Eastern Airlines and transferred from New York City to Atlanta. He remained in Georgia active in real estate as a broker and an agent until his death.

Robert Dale Holcomb, 60, of Sharpsburg, Ga. passed way unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 24, 2013.

Born January 24, 1953 in Welch, WVA, he was the son of Catherine Fitzgerald and Jimmy Dale Holcomb. Mr. Holcomb was devoted to his family especially his wife and daughter, and he always enjoyed spending time with them. On a recent Sunday morning at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Sharpsburg, two brothers shared the honor of being named St. Nicholas bishops for the Advent season.

Isaac Dickinson, 16, was the bishop during the 8:30 a.m. service while his brother, David Dickinson, 18, served at the 10 a.m. service. Each service began, as usual, with the processional hymn and acclamation. At the rear of the procession was a young man in the full regalia of a bishop – a young man they knew very well, but were more accustomed to seeing in the cassock and cotta of an acolyte. Read More»

More commercial on the way for Hwy. 34 E

Plans have been proposed for further commercial development at the retail center along Ga. Highway 34 and Andrew Bailey Road near Thomas Crossroads. A public hearing in January will include a proposal to establish a national chain restaurant and other retail businesses in a 9,400 sq. ft. building which has been vacant since it was constructed in 2007. Katharina Schaer, 77, of Sharpsburg, Ga. passed away on November 26, 2013 at Gentiva Hospice in Columbus, Ga.

Mrs. Schaer was born on June 10, 1936 to the late Kaspar and Maria Mollinger. In addition to her parents Mrs. Schaer was preceded in death by her husband, SSG U.S. Army (Ret) Bartlin Herman Schaer.

Holly Depweg has spent the majority of her 29 years living in Peachtree City and in the Fayetteville area. Currently a resident of Sharpsburg, Holly is now beginning to recover from a stroke she suffered on Nov. 14.
